Beautiful Day: Tarina Tarantino’s “My Pretty” Collection

Jewelry designer Tarina Tarantino (oh she who makes fuchsia hair look funkier than Jem ever did) recently unveiled her new “My Pretty” collection and an accompanying coffee table book featuring the designs therein, which range from lucite carved rose bracelets to crystal cocktail rings with spider details and hair clips bearing silk, red poppy designs. The collection was inspired by The Wizard of Oz and developed alongside Warner Bros. in celebration of the film’s 70th anniversary.

In the 52-paged book, which was shot by Albert Sanchez and styled by Johnny Wujek, Tarina Tarantino offers a thoroughly modern, fearlessly technicolor and wickedly creative take on the cassic story. This time around, Dorothy (played by Hollywood ingenue Holly Owens) calls Los Angeles home and it’s during her adventures there, that she encounters all types of unexpected people (including Gilda, played by Kelly Osbourne, and the Wicked Witch of the West, payed by Debi Mazar). Only 25 of these 9.5″ x 12.4″ books are available, so don’t take too long skipping down the yellow brick road!

But let’s get down to the jewelry. The leading lady in the “My Pretty” collection is this handmade Electric Butterfly Couture Waterfall Necklace, which features multiple chain strands adorned with Swarovski crystal droplets and surrounded by ten multicolored lucite butterfly pendants with crystal details. Obviously, if you’re going to rock such an elaborate necklace, you want to wear something simple and classic underneath (such as a black or white shirt with a plunging, V-shaped neckline)  — something that will simply let this necklace work its magic and have everybody’s heart aflutter.
