So So Def: Sally Hansen HD Hi-Definition Nail Color
Why should your TV be the only thing enjoying a higher resolution? Inspired by the takeover of high-definition television (you know, TVs that allow you to pretty much stare into the pores of your favorite TV stars), Sally Hansen has unveiled a new collection of dazzling shades, each with enough sheen to draw its own devoted audience.
All the shades in Sally Hansen’s HD Hi-Definition Nail Color collection boast tech-y names like “Cyber Frost,” “Digital Frost” and “Three D Frost” — which is actually a bit strange since, while the names fit with the collection’s “Hi-Definition” theme, there’s no relation between each shade and its moniker. How does “Cyber Frost” properly describe a Purple Rain-ready hue? And what does “Three D Frost” have to do with an orange tourmaline hue? But, hey, we’re hardly going to be fretting about the names of these high gloss nail enamels as we apply them onto our nails!
Some of the colors remind me of what you’d find in a Lite-Brite game: from “Digital Frost,” a perky fuchsia color, to “Lite Frost”, a pearly yellow, and “Pixel Pretty Frost,” a lovely teal hue. The one shade that didn’t quite tickle my pickle was the chartreuse green “Hi-Def Frost” — which, perhaps because of my skin color, made me look like a Puerto Rican Shrek (and that’s not bueno at all, my friends). I did, however, love the purple “Cyber Frost” shade, red “Hi-Res Frost” color, and peacock blue “Blu Frost” shade (all of which are pictured below).
The shades are extremely shiny, especially once you apply a top coat. I will warn you, however, that the enamel chips relatively easily, so don’t expect to go more than 4-5 days without a touch-up. But with colors this pretty, you won’t mind a bit of extra work.
