Calendar Girls: Nonoo Lyons Spring/Summer 2010 Presentation
For their Spring/Summer 2010 collection, designers Misha Nonoo and Deborah Lyons drew inspiration from images of American pin-up girls from the ’40s and ’50s. The Nonoo Lyons founders wowed fashionistas with their small collection of jackets and coats, which consists of 12 playful, coquettish styles that will bring out your inner Betty Boop.
Styles range from a waterproof, leopard print trench coat (Miss August) to a vibrant pink tweed jacket (Miss November) and ruched, cobalt blue silk zip-up jackets (Miss October). Each of the twelve pieces is named after a month of the year —from Miss January to Miss December). Even the collection’s lookbook was designed to resemble a calendar, with each pin-up girl posing in her designated jacket (and, for a picaresque twist, all of these girls were shot in front of a Coney Island landmark — be it the boardwalk or the Ferris Wheel).
The collection was presented on Wednesday, Sept. 10th at the Nonoo Lyons pop-up store located on Wooster Street (between Broome and Grand Streets) in Soho. Wearing high-waisted, black sequined boy shorts and Mechante of London heels (Deborah Lyons’ successful shoe brand), the models lined up along the cozy space’s wall and posed demurely with their jackets, for a tongue-in-cheek, Vargas Girls-esque feel.
Pictured above are some of my favorite styles: Miss October (at far left); Miss September, a white tweed number with a diagonal, bandleader-esque feel thanks to its silver stud and chain mesh trim; and Miss November (pictured above at far right), a hot pink tweed jacket with a form-flattering, skirted waistline.
