Lo Lo Lo Lo Lola — The Scent Of Lola Marc Jacobs

MJ--LOLA-100-ml

I’m convinced that Marc Jacobs’ newest muse is a voluptuous Latina — we may not have seen her yet, but she’s roaming around somewhere, with a more succulent booty and wider hips than Salma and JLo combined. All the stick-thin women who inspired him in the past (from Winona Ryder to Sofia Coppola) must have suddenly seemed, well, malnourished when compared to the juicy Lola. How else can you explain his newest fragrance’s seductively curved bottle, the colorful blooms adorning the cap, or even the its very name? Sure, it was a Russian writer (Vladimir Nabokov) who made the name “Lolita famous, but that moniker’s adult iteration, Lola, screams Latina through and through. Forget Run, Lola, Run, okay? The name “Lola” is derived from “Dolores” — hence why the late, great, Spanish flamenco singer Dolores Flores came to be known as “Lola of Spain.” See my point? Jacobs surely met a Latina so beguiling, so irresistible, that he felt compelled to capture her essence in an equally incomparable scent.

Unlike the innocent, light-hearted Daisy, this scent is way more salacious, as deliciously scandalous as the temptress character in a Mexican telenovela. Lola, you see, is a bit more of a diva — and what this lady wants, she definitely gets. The fragrance, then, is a floral bouquet rife with passion and sensuality.  Developed by perfumers Calice Becker and Yann Vasnier at Givaudan, Lola features top notes of pink peppercorn, pear d’anjou and ruby red grapefruit that tickle your olfactory senses, luring you in before you get to the floral heart, which consists mainly of fuchsia peony and a hint of rose and geranium. The base notes of vanilla, tonka bean and creamy musk add warmth to this full-bodied bouquet.

As you might have guessed, it’s my new fragrance of choice. It’s just one of those the-world-is-my-oyster type of scents. This Lola is out to get what she wants, m’kay?

Lola Marc Jacobs Eau de Parfum, $65 for 50mL and $85 for 100mL. Available at Bloomingdales and select specialty retailers. Visit Bloomingdales.com to buy.
