If there’s something that switching to an HD TV has shown me, it’s that there’s no such thing as spending too much money on quality concealer and foundation. Think about it: you only get one face (well, unless you’re TK — in which case you get about 10 of them). Nah, but all jokes aside, hi-def television is merciless — you can  stare down actresses’ pores as if you were looking into a periscope. But it’s not like celebrities are the only people who should invest in products that create the illusion of silky smooth, bump-free, luminous skin. Why should we regular folk be denied this basic human right? With Tarte’s new concealer and eye primer, you can  hide some of the imperfections in the troublesome eye area, while also getting to the root of them by treating, soothing and hydrating the skin.

The new under eye concealer, Dark Circle Defense, features botanical ingredients like: honey extract, a natural anti-inflammatory and antiseptic which is said to reduce the appearance of eye puffiness; soybean extract, which tenderly moisturizes; and vitamin E, which protects skin from free radical damage (and thus has long-term anti-aging benefits). It yields a fair amount of coverage, but what I love the most is that it really does lessen the appearance of those bags under your eyes — and it feels lightweight and gentle. Unlike most concealers, which sit atop the face and can yield an eerie, cake-y look, this one seems to penetrate your skin, creating a more seamless look. The concealer is available in two shades: Light-to-Medium and Medium-to-Deep. I do wish there were a few more shades available since I can’t imagine these working for every skin color type.

Now, once you’ve blended that concealer in, it’s time to apply some eye primer, so that you can have an even surface on which to apply your shadow and ensure that it lasts more hours. While, in my opinion, Tarte’s Lifted doesn’t ensure as much eyeshadow longevity as Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion, it does have some perks of its very own — among them, its ability to firm the skin and diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

The Lifted primer features Tarte’s trademark “Firmitol” complex, which includes ingredients: like gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which is believed to help relax facial nerves (which helps to prevent wrinkles from sprouting up); purslane extract, also a muscle relaxant; ginseng extract, which helps the skin transition from one type of environment to the next; and centella asiatica extract, which stimulates collagen synthesis. You’ll actually see the hills and crevices surrounding your eye diminish within minutes of application — yep, you’ll be ironing out the wrinkles along the outer corners of your eyes. Sure, you’ll still need an anti-aging eye cream to ensure long-term effects but, for a quick fix-up, this will go a long way.
