Face Time — Clinique Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula
Pressed powder compacts are about as current as analog television sets and VCR players. Sure, they’re still around, but their days seem to be numbered. Most women who have witnessed the natural-looking coverage provided by loose powder can’t bring themselves to return to pressed powders, which often cake up and create a mask-like effect. Whether she prefers a loose powder foundation or a finishing powder with a lighter, veil-like effect, today’s female consumer is a bit more of a loosey goosey with her makeup. Nowadays, when a woman pulls out a powder brush, chances are it will be a soft kabuki brush she can swirl and twirl with ease. Responding to the current climate, then, Clinique introduced its new Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula, which provides the necessary coverage while also delivering SPF protection, nourishing the skin with minerals like zinc, magnesium, calcium, and potassium, as well as antioxidants like vitamins A and C, and balancing the skin’s moisture level to simultaneously control excess oil production and avoid exacerbating any existing dryness.
The powder does a good job of controlling oil and shine throughout the day, and I love that it takes into account folks with dry skin by including murumuru butter and phytosqualene in the formula, both of which moisturize and soother. But the true brilliance of this product is the built-in shaver device. See, I firmly believe that the one reason why some women hesitate to pack loose powders into their purses is the potential messiness of it all. As you already know, once you tap a container of loose powder and the substance rises to the surface, there’s no turning back — if that cap should come undone for any reason, your entire purse and its contents will be cloaked in powder. Not fun at all. The Clinique Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula eliminates the problem, by allowing you to dispense only the necessary amount and keep the amount of “unpacked” powder at a bare minimum.
When you first open the compact, you’ll see a silver covering with grate-like slits. If you turn this dial clock-wise, you’ll notice the powder (which is in a compress form right below the shaver) being released via these tiny slits. You can hence control the amount of powder dispensed so as to avoid any mishaps. It’s an incredibly ingenious invention, and probably my favorite out of the product’s features.
The powder is available in eight shades, ranging from Natural 1 to Natural 8.
