Nice & Smooth — Shiseido Makeup Fall 2009 Collection
When developing Shiseido‘s Fall 2009 cosmetics collection, Artistic Director Dick Page drew inspiration from mosaics, hoping to develop a range of eye shadow lines hues to complement every outfit in your wardrobe — from your trusty, tailored, tweed navy blue blazer to that vibrant, knee-length, floral chiffon dress.
The collection features the following products: Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color (available in 15 shades), Shiseido Makeup Perfect Mascara (available in black and brown), Shiseido Makeup Smoothing Eyeliner Pencil (available in black and brown), Shiseido Makeup Natural Eyebrow Pencil (available in 4 new shades), Shiseido Makeup Advanced Hydro-Liquid Company Foundation SPF 15 (available in 11 new shades), Shiseido Makeup Translucent Loose Powder, and Shiseido Makeup Eyelash Curler. The highlight, of course, is the range of eye shadows, all of which have a really silky texture. None of the hues are too flashy (even the yellow shade has more of a marigold earthiness), but they do have interesting undertones that render them unique. After all, Shiseido is not a brand we associate with neon pops of color — brands like MAC, Urban Decay, Nars and Make Up For Ever have that realm on lock. Shiseido, instead, focuses more on creating more nuanced, intriguing renderings of traditional colors — pale teals with brown undertones, moody and dusty pinks, sexy but simple grays, etc.
I personally tried out the Smoothing Eyeliner Pencil in black and brown and the Luminizing Satin Eye Color in GR712. The dual-ended liners feature a sharpened pencil tip on one end, and a sponge tip on the other for blending in the liner. The liners go on with relative ease, so it doesn’t feel like you’re scraping at your eyelid, and the color stays on your lids for quite a few hours. Similarly, the Luminizing Satin Eye Color features great staying power. The GR712 shade, a sophisticated gray-meets-olive-green hue, makes for a great addition to any woman’s cosmetics treasure chest since it works with almost any skin type and is versatile enough to use on a near everyday basis.
