After trying out the Metropolis S-Nano Wet/Dry Ionic Iron, I didn't think I'd ever be quite as enthusiastic about another flat iron. To me, it was as ludicrous as being married to an Idris Elba lookalike and obsessing over a Chi McBride simile. But hey, since I'm not married to any one product (we don't take vows when it comes to styling tools, so we're free to play the field, right?), I reluctantly tested Sam Villa's Signature Series SLEEKR Flat Iron. I went through the motions with the full expectation of being disappointed, but I soon discovered that the SLEEKR is one smooth operator.
One of the main draws for me is the flat iron's clever design: the tourmaline complex-coated plates are curved around the edges, which ensures that no strands of hair will get caught in the device as you work through your mane. Plus, unlike traditional flat irons which take a few minutes to reach the desired temperature, the SLEEKR goes from 0 to 60 in no time — literally, it can reach temperatures of up to 410F in just 60 seconds. Best of all, this device is pretty much idiot-proof (which is just the way I like it). You can choose from among three temperature settings, depending on your hair type — Low (375F), Color Treated (392F), or High (410F). A rotating control band allows you to choose the desired setting with just a simple click, and a pulsating light along the handle will remind you of the setting you selected, flashing green for Low, yellow for Color Treated and red for High. Once you've set the temperature, all you have to do is divide your hair into sections and get to work, smoothing the SLEEKR along each section of hair and moving from root to tip.
In terms of the effects, the SLEEKR does more than straighten hair — it also adds polish and shine, which will make your look all the edgier. Check out the photo below to get an idea of the texture and sheen provided by the SLEEKR. See why I call it a smooth operator?
