It’s fitting that 50 Cent would name his new scent “Power.” From jump, Fif told us he’d get rich or die tryin’ — and he more than met that goal. His debut album sold over 12 million copies worldwide, while his sophomore effort, The Massacre, reached 5x platinum status in the US (with 1.5 million copies sold in its first week). And though Kanye West saw substantially higher first-week sales for his Graduation album than Fif did for Curtis (the two albums were released in the same week, sparking a months-long debate during which Fif bragged about outselling Kanye and even threatened to retire if he lost the competition), the latter’s album still boasted the fourth highest first-week sales of any album in 2007. And that’s just his solo music career. Add to that the film projects (from Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ to roles in Righteous Kill and Home of the Brave),
the G-Unit empire, the money he earned with Vitamin Water, his
countless endorsements deal and you’ve got yourself a hip-hop
powerhouse.
Developed by fragrance house Firmenich, Power by Fifty Cent from Lighthouse Beauty features top notes of lemon leaves, black pepper and Artemisia, a heart of dark woods, coriander and nutmeg, ad base notes of patchouli, musk and oak moss. The black bottle, with its metal hardware and pillar motifs, was designed by the firm Maesa so as to capture the notions of strength and influence which Fifty wanted to emphasize.
I haven’t smelled the scent yet, so I’m afraid I can’t tell you ladies whether it’s a must-have for your man but, if you’re a 50 Cent fan and you want a chance to meet the mogul and test out his fragrance for yourself, swing by Macy’s Herald Square tomorrow, where Fif himself will be on deck to greet fans and celebrate the launch of his new scent.
