Tim Gunn isn't the only one championing the School of Fashion at Parsons The New School For Design<. Recently, Lucky Brand Jeans partnered up with the institution and held a handbag contest during which students were encouraged to submit original designs for Lucky Brand handbags. The winners would be chosen based on their concept, craftsmanship, and their understanding of the brand's defining aesthetic, and they would have their designs produced and sold at Lucky Brand stores. Pictured above, are the two winning designs — the bag pictured on the left was conceived by Ethiopian student Benyam Assefa, while the bag on the right was designed by Jordan Weymouth Richards.
With its four zippered compartment pockets and tall frame, as well as its adjustable shoulder strap, Assefa's design was inspired by the idea of the brand's four-leaf cover icon and the desire to interpret that in a utilitarian manner (as with the four pockets). Richards' design, meanwhile, was inspired by the colors found in the Congo and the fluid motion of the Congo river.
Both handbags will be available at select Lucky Brand retailers and department stores.
