Marion Cotillard’s Golden Globes Hair — How To Get The Look

When I caught a glimpse of Marion Cotillard on the red carpet, I thought to myself, "Yes! THAT's what a Hollywood star should look like!" So many other actresses had opted for extremely plain, run-of-the-mill gowns (Kristen Bell's dress, for example, was completely unremarkable) or had erred on the side of overdone, overworked, gawdy-looking pieces (see Christina Hendricks' tragic frock). But Cotillard, she knew how to make glamour look effortless. From her Christian Dior gown to her pale pink lipstick and demure, emerald green cat eye liner, she managed to capture the elegance of old Hollywood and adapt it to a modern setting through subtle rock-n-roll details. Since her dress had some intricate elements, such as the draped, one-shoulder cut, an updo seemed like the logical choice of hairstyle, but again Cotillard went for an edgy yet sophisticated look, donning a '50s-inspired French twist with a bit of a pompadour bump along the front.

Robert Vetica, who worked Cotillard's hair into the modern French twist, says he started out by applying some Moroccanoil Treatment to the actress's wet hair, blow-drying it straight with a diffuser to retain the hair's natural texture. He then pin-curled all of her hair from front to back, so as to help create the pompadour shape along the front by molding the hair in such a manner as to add height along the front of the head.

When the hair dried, Vetica took out the curls and ran some Moroccanoil Hydrating Style Cream, which includes moisturizing argan oil, through Cotillard's hair. He then brushed the hair in a backwards and upwards motion. Next, he back combed the top, pulling the sides back and making sure to leave some volume at the top of the head. He then took the hair and worked it into a French twist, accessorizing it with a Chopard diamond hair clip. To finish the look off, he sprayed some Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to give Cotillard's hair a natural sheen.

The result? A look that would make both Janelle Monae and Grace Kelly proud.
