Infectious x Mimoco “GiddyUp” Mimobot — Get Up On It!
It’s no mystery that I love Mimoco‘s array of Mimobots, designer USB flash drives shaped after beloved cartoon or comic book characters or bearing interesting prints. Each Mimobot helps you store important data, all the while looking like miniature work of art. From its Star Wars-themed characters to its recent Hello Kitty collection and its collaboration with Italian brand Tokidoki, every new Mimobot series deeps digger into the pop art, cult film, and street fashion worlds. Its newest offering, the GiddyUp by Hila Rosenberg Arazi is not only spicing up workstations, but it’s bringing mass recognition to the Australian/Israeli designer.
Ariza emerged as the winner of the inaugural design challenge launched by Mimoco and Infectious, a company that consistently holds competitions during which artists submit their work in hopes of having it featured on a bevy of products such as T-shirts, iPhone skins, laptop decals, and more. Ariza’s Mimobot design was chosen from over 600 entries, and the final, mass produced flash drive was just launched for us art heads and tech gurus.
There’s a sense of whimsy and wonder in this design, which seems to draw from Japanese manga, gothic comic book art, and traditional fairy tale motifs. At the center of the Mimobot, you’ll find a young girl with pink hair and big blue eyes sitting atop what looks like a giraffe. If you look closely, you’ll notice that the girl is wearing striped blue-and-pink tights and that it appears like she’s straddling the giraffe, so that her tights extend into the Mimoco’s “arms.” Also, notice the snail lurking below the giraffe’s body. The closer you look, the more details will be revealed to you!
