Holding A Candle For Candela’s Spring 2010 Footwear Collection
I’m a sucker for Candela NYC shoes, and the assortment of styles for Spring/Summer 2010 just makes me smile. These designs manage to touch upon some of the biggest style trends of the season, and yet they do so in an innovative manner, with unexpected twists and playful details.
Take, for example the Candela Mesh Lace Oxfords in black (pictured at top), which play upon the menswear-inspired footwear trend (wingtips, oxfords, and lace-up shoes) we’ve been seeing. Like men’s Oxford shoes, they feature lacing along the center, with broguing (punched patterns) along the leather toe cap and heel. But the see-through lace-like floral pattern on the mesh uppers softens the masculine silhouette, making for a sexy, gender-bending style.
The Five Strap Open Toe Flat Booties (pictured second from top) nod to the punk-meets-military theme we’re seeing this season, with rows of thick buckles running from side to side starting at the ankle and extending to the toe region. The booties feature perforated leather, adding the necessary breathability to get through the warm months ahead, and creating a basket weave-like effect while the open toe adds a coquettish vibe.
Lastly, the Candela Studded Thong Sandals add a punk rock toughness to a traditionally feminine detail with all over pyramid studs along the black leather and a funky lace-up closure along the back.
How could anyone walk on by these shoes?
