New Drugstore Beauty Buys — Bioré Steam Activated Cleanser And Makeup Removing Towelettes
No big revelation here: steam opens pores. It’s why women venture into saunas, hoping to have that hot, damp air unclog their pores and allow them to sweat out any toxins. It’s also why steam facials have been so popular among spa hounds. So, taking these facts into account (as well as recent polls suggesting that an estimated 60% of women wash their faces in the shower), Bioré formulated a new cleanser that would build upon the skin-healing benefits of steam.
The concept behind their new Bioré Steam Activated Cleanser is consistent with that of home steam facials in which therapeutic herbs are immersed in piping hot water so that they can penetrate the skin’s pores once the steam opens them up. The Bioré Steam Activated Cleanser With SteamActiv Beads features a mint extract complex that helps to reduce any oiliness in the skin (mint is, after all, a natural astringent, particularly given its concentration of vitamin A), soothe existing inflammations such as break-outs or itchy patches (mint contains salycilates and hence makes for an effective acne-fighting treatment). Aside from maximizing the therapeutic benefits of mint, the cleanser cools the skin, creating a pleasant and refreshing sensation. Another main ingredient is green tea leaf extract, which boasts anti-inflammatory properties and is chock-full of antioxidants.
I was a bit skeptical about the SteamActiv Beads (which look like miniature versions of the beads used in the Dove Body Wash With NutriumMoisture shower creams) mainly because I had such an unpleasant experience with the beads in the Dove body washes — mainly, the nourishing beads were supposed to dissolve upon contact with the skin, but often remained intact, which meant I was tiny beads off my skin (and off my bathtub) for weeks after use. Fortunately, the Bioré SteamActiv Beads were much more cooperative and did, for the most part, rinse away with ease.
I really enjoyed how squeaky clean my skin felt as I used this product in the shower (mainly a result of the mint extract used in the formula) and was pleasantly surprised to discover that it didn’t irritate my dry and often sensitive skin. Seeing as I have such parched skin, this wouldn’t really be my face wash of choice but it’s a nice alternative for those times when my pockets are taking a hit.
Aside from the Steam Activated Cleanser, Bioré just introduced its new Makeup Removing Towelettes, gentle facial wipes that effectively remove stubborn makeup and which deliver a nice pick-me-up for sweaty or oily skin. I absolutely loved these wipes, which are infused with green tea extract, coconut water, Indian ginseng and vitamin E, soothing the skin and delivering antioxidant protection as they help to remove all that yucky grime atop the skin surface. These are perfect for packing inside your bag in the summertime — no fuss, no muss.
