Damien Hirst Deck Chairs — The Beach Is Calling!
Thanks to New York City-based gallery Artware Editions, any beach excursion can be as full of magic and whimsy as a fluttering rainbow fanciful butterflies. Artware Editions is currently offering an array of limited-edition deck chairs designed by top-notch artists like: painter Gary Hume, whose work often features a minimal amount of imagery but an array of bright colors; Sir Peter Blake, the artist behind the cover art for The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band; Turner Prize-winning mixed media artist Keith Tyson; and British artist Damien Hirst, who is rumored to be one of the richest living artists. Each folding chair features a Merpauh wood frame and a digitally-printed, sailcloth sling bearing each artist’s design.
I’m particularly fond of Damien Hirst’s design (no surprise there since I’ve been a sucker for butterflies way before Mariah Carey took the concept to absurd heights). Hirst’s chairs make you feel like you’re being carried around by a cloud of butterflies (like you dove into a mosh pit and the butterflies are the people’s hands, lifting you around and allowing you to “surf” through the space). And, in keeping with the perky vibe of summer, these are printed on bright turquoise, daffodil yellow, orange-tinged red, black, and pastel yellow cloth.
Who needs a boring striped chair when you can cop one of these numbers?
