We’re launching a new column today, gals: Green Room Thursdays. Every Thursday in this column, we will feature an eco-friendly beauty or fashion release that we think our readers will love. Today’s pick: Burt’s Bees Natural Toothpaste line. The new collection of sulfate-free, paraben-free, all-natural toothpastes consists of two Multicare formulas (one with and one without fluoride), two Whitening formulas (one with fluoride and one without fluoride), and two Kids formulas (the orange-flavored Orange Wow toothpaste and the berry-flavored Berry Wow toothpaste).

The key ingredient in all the toothpaste formulas is cranberry extract, which in addition to its antioxidant properties, includes nutrients known as Proanthocyanidins (PACs) that prevent bacteria from adhering to
surface of your teeth, hence preventing the development of dental plaque. In addition, the adult toothpastes include calcium and phosphorus to help strengthen teeth, silica for its whitening effect, and natural peppermint to freshen breath. I’ve been using the Burt’s Bees Multicare with Fluoride Natural Toothpaste, and I’ve been pleased with how effectively it cleans teeth. The mint flavor isn’t as strong or refreshing as what you’d find in a Colgate or Crest toothpaste, but it’s the best I’ve experienced from a natural toothpaste.

My 6-year-old son, meanwhile, can’t get enough of the Orange Wow toothpaste. The kids’ formulas are a particularly great investment since their yummy flavors make brushing teeth a fun activity rather than a tedious chore. Normally, getting toddlers or young children to brush their teeth is quite the feat but, with these toothpastes, kids might just take the initiative to brush on their own. I normally have to remind my son to brush his teeth in the morning but, since he started trying the Orange Wow, he’s been brushing his teeth immediately after he wakes up. Not only does he like the orange, candy-like taste, but the toothpaste itself has an orange tint that he finds fascinating. If you prefer a fluoride-free toothpaste for your kid, the Berry Bee will do the trick.

Burt’s Bees Natural Toothpaste, $5 each. Available at BurtsBees.com
