Clarins Instant Sun Light Summer 2010 Makeup Collection

For summer 2010, Clarins concentrated on creating a collection that would instantly brighten up your complexion, making you appear as radiant as if you were standing directly under a beam of sunlight. Rather than delving into the aquatic spectrum (teal, turquoise, aquamarine, etc), or exploring the nuances of the color coral (one of the most prominent color trends this season), Clarins opted for an earthy collection inspired by exotic spices and herbs found around the world: think cinnamon, with its sepia-tinged brown hue; ginger root, with its creamy, slightly pearly, sandy beige hue; vanilla, with its golden, yellowish white color; and paprika, with its fiery, brown-tinged orange color.

Below, you’ll find images of some of the key products in the collection, as well as swatches and photos of looks I created using them. Let the sun light pour down on us all!

CLARINS INSTANT SUN LIGHT EYE QUARTET & LINER PALETTE

The focal point of the collection, the limited-edition Clarins Instant Sun Light Eye Quartet & Liner Palette features four delicious shades that yield a natural glow. The palette itself looks like a work of art, with an embossed, star-shaped anise flower at the center of the compact, its petals stretching out to cover each square pan holding an eyeshadow shade, hints of shimmering gold juxtaposed against the darker brown colors.

The shades in the quartet include: a creamy, light sandy, Adobo-like beige with a subtle pearlescent finish (this particular color almost has a moistness that makes it feel really soothing on the skin); a reddish brown with a coppery shimmer (perhaps the most stunning color in the quartet); a sparkle-heavy rosegold tone; and a dusky, matte, hot cocoa color. A muddy, nutmeg brown liquid liner accompanies the four shades. Not only is it easy to create a natural, everyday look with this palette, but the colors can easily transition from summer to fall, making it a great investment as we reach the mid-summer point.

Next, check out a very simple look I created with the shadows in the palette. For this look, I started out by applying the creamy, beige hue all along the lids, the crease, and right up to the brow bone. Next, I applied the shimmering rose gold hue all along the lids and crease, and gave the eyes some depth by brushing the coppery brown hue along the outer corners of the lids. Lastly, I applied a couple of layers of mascara.

In addition to the stunning, spice rack-ready eye shadows in the Instant Sun Light Quartet, Clarins treated us to three new lipgloss shades that deliver a hint of sheer, shimmering color, helping to bring out the natural tones found in your pout. The Instant Sun Light Click & Gloss pens feature a soft brush applicator; to apply, you simply have to click the button at the bottom of the silver-toned pen until the lip gloss inside the tube makes its way to the brush tip. Each lipgloss features an SPF 6 factor, so that your pout will be protected from the sun’s UV rays.

The Instant Sun Light Click & Gloss SPF 6 pens are available in three colors: 01 (Vanilla), 02 (Coral) and 03 (Cinnamon). I had the chance to try the 03 shade, and I loved the texture, since it’s rather lightweight and not overly sticky. The color, meanwhile, leaves your lips looking like a cinnabon with a coat of enticing molten glaze on the surface. Check it out for yourself!
