“Cuteness!,” I exclaimed loudly, letting out a prolonged “Awww” sound, like I was a 7-year-old, pigtail-wearing girl staring longingly at an adorable puppy from outside a pet store window.

That, my friends, was my first reaction to the new Dooney & Bourke collection produced in collaboration with Disney Theme Park Merchandise. Each of the handbags in the new Disney Princess collection features cameo illustrations of Disney’s most popular princess characters (Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Belle), as well as icons that reference each of them: Cinderella’s glass slipper and the castle she inhabited at the end of the fairy tale, the rose bloom referenced in Beauty And The Beast, a sparkling diamond, and more.

The perky color schemes, the bubble-like shapes containing each fairy tale princess icon, and the pop art-flavored graphic style all nod to the aesthetic defined by the Dooney & Bourke Pop Novelty collection. Customers can choose from among various silhouettes: a tan leather trim Princess Tote (pictured at top), measuring 10 1/2″ in height and 15″ in width; a zippered Princess Wristlet (pictured second from top) measuring 4 1/2” in height and 8″ in width; a Princess Bucket Bag (pictured third from top) featuring an adjustable 12″ shoulder strap and measuring 6 1/2″ in height and 10″ in width;  as well as a roomier Princess Satchel piece (not pictured here). All the handbag styles are made of coated cotton and feature leather trimmings, including a rectangular logo badge sewn across the front of each bag.

Now, admittedly, my initial enthusiasm over the collection dissipated a bit upon closer inspection of the handbag styles, so that I’m now battling with rather mixed feelings about the line. My inner 7-year-old is still salivating over each style, of course, but she’s now been subdued by my real-life grown woman, who would feel slightly ridiculous pulling out business cards, a Blackberry, or an iPod from a handbag covered in princess motifs.

Then again, what happens in Disney World stays in Disney World so if I do make it to the Magic Kingdom any time soon, I may just let that inner princess win one style battle!
