In honor of the new Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream collection, I’m blasting Prince’s “Cream” and mouthing the lyrics, “You’re so cool, everything you do is the best/Make the rules, then break them all ’cause you are the best.” And  trust: there’s nothing hyperbolic about suggesting that the Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream waterproof cream colors are, in fact, the best.

Available in 22 shades, these multi-purpose cream colors withstand humidity, sweat, rain, and streams of water, locking onto skin securely for a long-lasting experience. Unlike many so-called “waterproof” pigments, which run a marathon down your face at the mere hint of moisture, these really do stay in place — you can practically stand in the middle of a lawn-watering sprinkler system and emerge with unscathed makeup. As a test, I tried removing the cream colors I’d swatched on my arm by dipping my arm under the faucet and, despite some fierce scrubbing, the pigments remained on my skin  — maybe not as vibrant as before (like I said, there were multiple rounds of scrubbing involved), but they were still there.

In true MUFE fashion, the colors available are rich and adventurous, with hints of shimmer that add a lustrous feel – the No.4, for example, has a vanilla frosting white hue, with hints of shimmer that make the color appear dewy, like newly fallen snow; the No. 22 (one of my personal favorites), an elegant emerald green, recalls the beautiful plumage of a tropical bird, like a Quetzal or a Macaw; and the No. 7 color, a bright fuchsia would make Blondie lovers swoon.

Before I walk you lovelies through the photos below, allow me to make a few more important points about the Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream pigments. Their texture is surprisingly lightweight and silky. If you run your fingertip across the surface of a pigment, you’ll notice the texture isn’t chunky or thick as with other cream colors but, instead, feels almost as fluid as an oil. This streamlines the makeup application process since the colors can easily be brushed, blended and swirled along the desired surface area. You can apply the colors with your fingers or with lip and eyeshadow brushes, but I would suggest the latter since, given how fluid the Aqua Creams’ consistency, brushes allow for greater precision.

Since these multi-purpose hues can be used on eyes, lips or cheeks, you can really let your inner artist shine through as you play with these pigments.

I tried out four of the Aqua Cream shades: the No. 12, a light bronze hue with rose gold, champagne tones; the No. 14, an auburn brown with reddish plum undertones; and the previously mentioned No. 7 and No. 22 cream colors. It would be hard to even pick a favorite among them since they’re all so vibrant and lustrous in their own unique way. See for yourself!

Pictured below, you’ll find swatches of, from left to right, the No. 12, No. 22, No. 14, and No. 7 shades:

Below, you’ll find two close-up photos of a look I created using the No. 22 and No. 12 shades.

To get this look, I started out by applying the No. 22 on lids, then along the crease and half way to the brow, shaping the top of the shadow line in a bit of a curve, like a half moon.

Next, I applied a Shu Uemura cream eyeshadow in light green along the inner half of lids to give the look a bit more contrast. I then dotted the inner corners of my eyes with the No. 12 shade.

To finish off the look I darkened my brows with the MAC Brow Set in Show-Off and applied Maybelline Collosal Volume Mascara to my lashes.

Time to talk about the No. 14! I predict this shade will be on heavy rotation on my lids for fall. Below, I’m wearing it on my lids and, as oyu can see, I created a bit of a naughty, cat eye effect:
