Gottex Spring 2011 Runway Show — Yacht-Ready Fashion
Imagine the extravagant ensembles donned by Goldie Hawn in Overboard (remember the white swimsuit with the plunging neckline paired with a white cover-up jacket accented by gold epaulets with nautical rope tassels?). Next, tone down the straight-out-of-the-’80s, Dynasty-worthy gaudiness, stir in a bit of Barbarella-style, dominatrix-worthy toughness, and add a dose of Saint-Tropez glamour, and you’ve got a feel for the Gottex Spring 2011 collection.
Lycra, lurex, and tulle swimsuits were ruched, draped, foiled, corseted and adored with rock crystals, lucite, sequins, and hammered titanium metals for a show-stopping collection meant for voguing on a private yacht or exclusive resort. The color scheme included: a tie-dye-flavored, aquatic baby blue and royal blue print seen on bikinis with corseted lacing detail; a sky blue print fused with a sunny yellow (as pictured second from top in the criss-crossed bandeau bikini top, matching brief, and flowing chiffon cape shown); a coral and orange sunset print (seen third below in a tulle bikini with a slightly off-the-shoulder cape); a green malachite print (as shown fifth from top in the laminated, high-waisted, belted bikini bottom paired with a hip-length, chiffon cover-up); a soft beige and golden rust sand print (shown third from top in a bustier-style one-piece swimsuit with black, rubberized edges and a silk bolero-like jacket); midnight blue (as depicted second below, in the high-waisted bikini with sequined and crystal embroidery, paired with a sheer floor-length skirt train with ruffled edges); crisp white (as spotted on lace-up one pieces and ribbed bandeau swimsuits with rock ribbed belts), dramatic black, and metallic silver and bronze.
Visors with clear brims and scarf-tie tops added to the glamour of the runway show, as did the Brigitte Bardot-inspired, voluminous bouffant-style bumps at the crown of models’ manes (a look created by Rodney Cutler and his team), which jutted out from the open top of the visors they sported, adding to the French Riviera-ready feel. The choice of models also helped to conjure up fantasies of a wealthy lifestyle: Gottex counted on top-notch catwalkers like Sessilee Lopez, Karolina Kurkova, Crystal Renn, and Heidi Mount, among others.
Though all the looks displayed tantalized, as the show progressed, looks became more dramatic and jaw-dropping, culminating in such sparkling, music-video ready looks as the black double-sided sequined dress with a sweetheart-shaped, jewelry encrusted neckline and slim encrusted shoulders (as pictured above, at top). Similarly, a black double-sided black one-piece swimsuit modeled by the shapely Crystal Renn was paired with a mini bolero that lent the look a tough, armor-like feel, reminiscent of something we might have seen in Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” video (check out the look above, fourth from top).
We wouldn’t, of course, recommend performing swimming relays at the local pool in these ensembles. The Gottex Spring 2011 collection line is all about a life of leisure: lounging by the pool, sunbathing atop a yacht, and sashaying down an exclusive resort. Hey, even while on a cruise, you never want to take a vacation from style, right?
