Grab Onto Fall With Kooba’s New Handbag Styles
Leave it to Kooba to channel some of Fall 2010’s hottest style trends in a manner that’s somehow paradoxically, both timely and timeless. How can a handbag be both classic, defying spatial and cultural conventions, and contemporary, right on the pulse of an of-the-moment phenomenon? It’s the genius of Kooba’s aesthetic, the way subtle details can reference a trend without veering into gimmicky territory that will put a serious expiration date on any given handbags style.
Let’s do a case study, shall we? The new “Maggie” shoulder bag (pictured third from top) nods to biker chic style, with flat brass studs adorning the stitched, slanted pleats fanning out along the top of the leather shoulder bag. The two shoulder straps, meanwhile, feature buckle closures and a strip of grommets to adjust strap length. A row of brass studs also runs horizontally across the bottom ridge of the bag. Available in basic black or cognac red, the Kooba “Maggie” satchel can be worn with a biker jacket and combat boots for a tougher, streetwise feel, or it can be paired with a whimsical, Boho-style dress or a sharp pair of tailored trousers and a classic long-sleeved shirt for a sleeker look. The bag’s stud detailing, then, gives it a biker babe edge, and yet this vibe can be played up or down depending on the ensemble with which the handbag is paired.
Another perfect example: Kooba’s “Audrey” Tote (pictured at top), which features contrasting leather and suede panels for a play on texture that’s in keeping with the rich velvet, brocade and fur trimmings we’re seeing for fall 2010, but which will outlive any seasonal fads. The single shoulder strap bag boasts an origami-like feel thanks to the architectural arrangement of the contrasting stitched panels.
And, of course, the Kooba “Campbell” satchel zooms in on the military trend, with its olive green canvas material, two button-snap front flap pockets, handy drawstring closure, grommet-lined side cinch strips, and tough brass hardware. But the “Campbell” tote’s atypical shape — its curved ridges and the sloping “U” shape along the top and center of the bag — soften the piece’s silhouette, making it way more versatile and eclectic.
See? Timely yet timeless — it’s the Kooba way.
