Minimalist Makeup At United Bamboo SS11 Presentation
To complement the pieces in the United Bamboo Spring/Summer 2011 collection, Shiseido’s Makeup Artistic Director Dick Page opted for a minimalist makeup look.
Models wore a hint of foundation to smooth the surface and cover up any existing imperfections but few other products were used on the face — in fact, Page even skipped concealer (a rather uncommon phenomenon).
Lids, meanwhile, were given a smoky yet glossy texture. To create the effect, Page used the new Shiseido Luminizing Eye Color Trio in Snow Shadow, a trifecta of smoky gray and white hues, blending the shadows with the Shiseido Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment in order to give the pigments greater weight and to create a fluid, melted-on visual effect and texture. First, he applied the light silver eye shadow shade in the Snow Shadow trio, mixing it with the Benefiance lip balm to obtain a creamy, gel-like texture. Next, he brushed the balmy shadow along lids, creating a sleek, glossy eye. Next, he lined both the upper and lower lash lines with the darker charcoal gray in the Snow Shadow trio, mixing it with lip balm again before doing so and smudging the color ever so softly. In keeping with one of the most surprising beauty trends of the Spring/Summer 2011 season, Page eschewed the use of mascara, allowing lashes to curl in their free and uninhibited state.
To finish off the look, Page applied Shiseido Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment models’ pouts, then layered on a bit of Shiseido Shimmering Lipstick in Alabaster, dabbing it using onto lips his index finger for a barely-there, almost stain-like effect.
Simple, sleek, and easy to recreate, the look can perhaps be described as no-makeup makeup.
