Edmundo Castillo’s Scarlett Platforms In Fern Viper Make ‘Em Green With Envy
Over the years, fellow Puerto Rican Edmundo Castillo has often made my heart swell with pride, keeping women on their toes (quite literally) with exquisite shoe designs. Whether he was envisioning pieces for Sergio Rossi (where he worked as creative director from 2004 to 2008) or for Italian firm Santoni (which he has commandeered since 2008), Castillo mastered the art of footwear as a conduit for sensuousness and elegance.
But while Castillo’s designs for Sergio Rossi and Santoni have dazzled, my heart still ached for the bold but ladylike, innovative but timeless, exotic but accessible feel of the pieces produced for his namesake line, which Castillo shuttered back in 2005. When I learned that the seasoned footwear guru would resuscitate his company for Spring 2011, then, I was walking on sunshine (in a pair of Castillo heels, of course!).
So what should we expect from the debut collection of the relaunched Edmundo Castillo label? Well, let’s start with sculptural but intrepid silhouettes and rich animal skins. Take, for example, the Scarlett Platform in Fern Viper, which up-and-coming actress Nora Zehetner wore to the Harry Winston Court of Jewels Recreation Launch in NYC last night. The snakeskin heels feature a hefty platform heel, rounded cut-outs, a ladylike ankle strap, and a sexy heel that curves downward along the very back of the shoe in an ode to the natural voluptuousness of the female form.
These viper skin platform heels are the best kind of fashion poison so, if this is what Castillo has in store for Spring 2011, consider me bitten!
