All Shook Up Over Catherine Malandrino’s “Presley” Bag
In a tweet dated December 8th, @malandrinobuzz (the official Twitter account for fashion designer Catherine Malandrino) announced that “a star was born,” including a bit.ly link in the message directing followers to a piece on Blog.CatherineMalandrino.com unveiling the new “Presley” bag. The limited-edition, black leather, hobo-esque shoulder bag (pictured above) features over 500 distressed metal rivets in a yellow gold tone, a weathered golden brass, and an antique-looking silver hue. Roomy enough for a laptop or even a photography-centered coffee table book, the bag features a single shoulder strap with twisted, braid-like leather strips, a zippered top closure, and rounded edges along the bottom.
The bag features: mixed metal pyramid studs all along the bottom of the bag, arching along the curved edges; round domed studs of varying diameters arranged along the front of the bag in a rounded “V” shape; a double row of domed beads running vertically along the sides of the purse; and “X” shaped studs scattered haphazardly all along the center of the bag, lighting it up like a starry sky, while adding a playful vibe (you’re likely to think of playing jacks when you examine these embellishments up close).
The pyramid-shaped square studs are reminiscent of the white jumpsuit Elvis wore in Jacksonville, Florida, while filming the Elvis On Tour documentary, while the star motifs nod to the King’s flashier Vegas ensembles, like the iconic “Eagle” jumpsuit that’s still favored by most Presley impersonators (luckily, however, there are no hokey bird shapes with red and blue rhinestones, gaudy cabochon studs, or chunky belts and chains on this piece!).
This rocker chic bag stands as proof of Malandrino’s own appreciation for music pioneers, as does the fact that it was released a month before the the King of Rock N Roll’s birthday on January 8th. Only a limited number of Presley bags are available, so cop yours now!
