Havaianas x Michael Bastian Collaboration — Camo Time!
Let’s be clear: our love of camo prints isn’t indicative of some war-mongering, militia-loving, troop-touting spirit. You won’t find us hanging up posters emblazoned with Uncle Sam’s semblance. We won’t be attending any NRA rallies or driving on down to a shooting range. Heck, the only weapons we ever plan on bearing are water pistols and paintball guns. And yet, however hypocritical or contradictory, we can’t seem to resist military-inspired prints, with camouflage reigning supreme. This spring, we’re pairing our slouchy cargo pants and tank tops with these limited-edition Havaianas x Michael Bastian flip-flops, so that even our feet feel like they’re packing major heat.
These printed sandals are the result of a collaboration with acclaimed fashion designer Michael Bastian, who is nominated for the 2011 CFDA Menswear Designer of The Year award and who is now courting the ladies with the launch of a womenswear line for Spring/Summer 2011. The co-branded flip-flops were first seen during the Michael Bastian SS11 show in September 2010, when sinewy male models walked the runway in surfer-meets-military-meets-polo-player looks like an olive green jacket with front cargo pockets and drawstring accents worn with black spandex scuba shorts or, for that matter, a ribbed V-neck sweater worn over a striped button-down shirt and paired with cropped camo trousers. A few garments, like the aforementioned trousers, even incorporated th every olive-and-brown camo print of the flip-flops shown at top, an earthy pattern that boasts a bit of a safari given its similarity to leopard spots.
Fellas have four style options to choose from in the Havaianas x Michael Bastian Designer Collaboration (the two shown above as well as two styles featuring a scuba diver print), while ladies can opt for either the brown camo or gray camo styles pictured here.
