V Is For Veda’s Vendetta — Veda Handbags Arrive At Shopbop!
Having spent her formative years jetting between her native Texas and her family’s ranch in Argentina, then relocating to the Big Apple to attend New York University and eventually growing roots in Hollywood, VEDA designer Lyndsey Butler is the epitomize of the sophisticated urban cowgirl. Forget Laredo plaid shirts, suede coats with fringe details along the sleeves and lapels, and frayed denim skirts: VEDA focuses is premium leather apparel and accessories that transcend location. The brand’s jackets feel buttery soft, come in colors ranging from your standard black to an almost delicate peachy pink, and feature unexpected silhouettes and cuts (i.e. not your run-of-the-mill motorcycle jacket or bomber).
Since its Spring 2008 launch, VEDA has amassed a cult following that includes celebrities like Katy Perry, Halle Berry, and Jessica Alba (talk about a stylish crowd!). For Spring 2011, Butler has set her sights on an entire new style territory: handbags. The new collection of VEDA handbags, which just landed at Shopbop.com, consists of infinitely wearable, understated yet sleek, carefully constructed suede or leather pieces in black, camel, and olive green. The Vendetta bag’s silhouette (pictured at top) draws its inspiration from the hobo, but the sturdy top handle, with its whipstitching detail, and sturdy construction give its shape greater definition and a more streamlined form. Available in black leather or camel suede, the bag measures 15″ in height and 16″ in length and features urban details like rivet-accented teardrop-shaped tab details at the bottom corners. The Vendetta even nods to the classic Birkin bag with a thin fabric strip running horizontally along the length of the purse, right near the top rim, with a center turn-lock detail at its center.
If you don’t carry quite as much junk in your purse, you can opt for the laid-back Ursala bucket bag (pictured second from top), also available in camel suede or black leather. This Ursala features vertical stitching along the center of the bag (in both the front and back), as well as thick bands with horizontal stitching along the top and bottom ridges of the bag. The knotted ends of the drawstring cords, meanwhile, give the sleek and classic design just a sprinkle of rustic charm. When you cinch the drawstring, the top of the purse folds like a brown paper bag, creating a playful effect. Thanks to the adjustable, belt-like shoulder strap, the Ursala (which measures 15″ in height, 10.5″ in length, and 6″ in depth) can be worn as a standard shoulder bag or as a cross-body piece.
Other fun designs such as the Cleo, a camera bag with a snap-accented front pocket, and the Cosmic, a perfectly round cross-body piece, are poised to hit Shopbop shortly, so check out photos of those after the jump and be on the look-out for more of Veda’s handbag vanguard.
