Bobbi Brown x Tibi Peony & Python Collection — A Reptilian Rapture
When famed makeup artist Bobbi Brown and Tibi designer/founder Amy Smilovic joined forces to create a limited-edition cosmetics range housed in covetable makeup bags and compact cases, the final result was the Peony & Python collection, a mélange of regal purples, romantic lilacs, cool grays, dirty silvers and dusky taupes and blacks. Like the famed guns-and-roses dichotomy, the juxtaposition of colors coveys a power play between naughty and nice, wild and domesticated, dangerous and damsel-like. The zippered canvas makeup bag and eyeshadow compact case in the collection. designed by Smilovic herself, each feature an illustration of a magenta-tinged, lilac-colored, fanciful peony blossom outlined in black and boasting shadows made with electric purple brush stokes — all offset against a reptilian cream-and-black snakeskin pattern.
The piece de resistance in the collection if the Peony & Python Palette ($50 at BobbiBrownCosmetics.com or Sephora.com), which features six eye shadow shades: Eclipse, a dusky, abysmal black; Plum Orchid, a mysterious eggplant purple with a chalky matte texture; Cobra, a dirty, tarnished-looking silver; Cool Ivory, a creamy pale taupe; Lavender, a shimmering soft lilac worthy of a lush spring wedding bouquet; and Opal; an understated, neutral gray with a hint of shimmer. In addition to these cool, shadow-y but fresh eyeshadow hues, the Peony & Python collection incorporates the perky pink Pale Peony Rich Color Gloss ($22 at Bobbi Brown counters) and the creamy Lilac Rich Lip Color SPF 12 lipstick ($22 at Bobbi Brown counters).

Below (from left to right), you’ll find swatches of the Eclipse, Plum Orchid, Cobra, Cool Ivory, Lavender, and Opal eye shadows in the Peony & Python Palette. The Lavender, Cobra, and Opal shades are my absolute favorites — they’re romantic with a rock-n-roll edge. Check them out:
Here’s another look at the six eye shadows in the palette, which range from shimmering pale grays and lilacs to intense, smoky blacks and purples:
Below, you’ll find a look I created using some of the colors in the Peony & Python palette. I started out by brushing the Lavender hue, a silvery pale lilac color with luminous pearly pink undertones, all over the lower lid and crease, extending the shadow to the brow bone area and creating a down turned arc shape. I then applied the Cobra shade, a tarnished-looking shimmering silver hue, to the outer third of lower lids, extending the color upwards to the crease. Next, I applied another layer of the Lavender eye shadow, blending it with the Cobra shade along the crease. To add some drama, I brushed on the Plum Orchid color, a deep purple hue, to the inner thirds of lids, blending this darker shade with the softer, more whimsical Lavender hue. Last, I applied two coats of black mascara to lashes.
On lips, meanwhile, I smoothed on the Lilac Rich Lip Color SPF 12, which gives my pout just a hint of cool mauve-ish color and feels deliciously creamy thanks to the conditioning agents in the formula.
