Pre-Order Messeca’s New Fall 2011 Charmene Wedge
Remember when Theo Huxtable tries to win his ex-girlfriend Justine back with a groveling, despondent, blues-infused “Justine! Justine!” cry? That’s how I imagine shoe hounds will feel if they can’t get their hands on the Charmene, a new Fall 2011 footwear style from year-old, New York-based line Messeca. The ankle bootie features a 5 1/2″ wood-and-leather wedge heel and a 1 1/4″ platform. The leather uppers feature arched rows of tonal stitching along an isolated section at the center of the vamp, with the rows of stitching creating a quilted, concrete jungle-ready effect. Flannel strips along the side, meanwhile, tacitly reference the chilly autumn weather. But the curved fold-over flaps along the ankle constitute the design tour de force here. The rounded flaps feature thin leather strips along their outer edges, plus the tonal stitching details on the flannel lining curves in a way that mimics the natural contours of the flaps themselves, creating a grooved effect that’s both modern and sculptural.
The ribbed-like effect along the fold-over flaps, the quilted details at the vamp, and the contrast of sleek leather and fuzzy flannel all work to infuse the Charmene with a modern military vibe which, in turn, recalls such urban style staples as the leather bomber jacket.
Available in Wine, Taupe, or Black, the Messeca Charmene retails for $199.95 and is available for for pre-order at Solestruck.com (which, incidentally, is my go-to source for Jeffrey Campbell shoes). The shoes will ship on August 1st, so they’ll be in your hands before the official start of fall, leaving you one step ahead of the game (literally and metaphorically).
