Tarte EmphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Cream Eyeshadows Make A Splash
I will forever cherish the day when Tarte Cosmetics tapped into the power of Amazonian Clay, its most recent go-to ingredient for formulating long-lasting, skin health-boosting, moisture-balancing, and overall stellar botanical-based cosmetics. From the Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Iluminating Serum to the Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush (my top blush choice these days), Tarte’s latest releases have exceeded the high performance standards it itself established. An adaptable, chameleon-like, multi-tasking ingredient, Amazonian clay helps to restore skin to its optimal moisture balance. Those with dehydrated complexions, then, experience an infusion of moisture that makes skin appear more supple, luminous, and smooth; while oily-skinned gals benefit from the clay’s antibacterial and pore minimizing-properties, as well as its ability to slow down oil production. Not only has Tarte turned to Amazonian Clay when developing its complexion offerings, bronzers and bushes, but it has relied on the mineral-rich ingredient to formulate highly pigmented mascaras, cream eye liners and, most recently, waterproof cream eyeshadows.
For Summer 2011, Tarte unveiled its new emphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Cream Eyeshadow ($25 each at QVC.com), a five-color range of luminous, ultra-smooth, long-wearing 0.1 oz. cream eyeshadow pots. The micronized Amazonian clay in the eyeshadow formula works to intensify the vibrancy of the mineral pigments therein while infusing them with a subtle shimmer. Pigmentation and intensity aside, the Amazonian clay also helps to smooth the surface of lids, making for an easier application process and allowing eyes to appear younger by minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, it keeps the skin hydrated so that the cream shadows never crack, crease, smear, or flake. Natural plant waxes, meanwhile, form the waterproof layer that protects shadows from smudging due to sweat, rain, tears, or any other unexpected H2O encounter.
The five Tarte emphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Cream Eyeshadow hues consist of: Moss, an earthy olive green with tarnished gold shimmer; Seashell Pink, a luminous Queen Conch color with a shimmering white pearly finish; Slate, a grayish brown hue worthy of a rock wall formation but boasting microscopic, mutli-dimensional pearl particles; Beach Bronze, an earthy metallic shade that’s as luminous as a Grecian statue; and Shimmering Plum, a deep Merlot color that blurs the line between burgundy and purple.
These shadows glide onto lids effortlessly without clumping or smearing, can be blended together with ease, and they dry relatively quickly — all desirable and yet hard-to-find qualities in cream eyeshadows. Best of all, they stay in place even on the hottest and most humid days of summer, those days when the weather is so stifling you feel like streaking from one air conditioned spot to the next. Longevity aside, these cream shadows retain their lush, painted-on feel and their alluring luminosity all day long, never appearing stale or dull.

Next, check out a look I created with the Tarte emphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Cream Eyeshadows.
To perfect my complexion, I applied the Ready to Wear Longevity Anti Aging Long Wearing Foundation in Light using a Beautyblender sponge to cover tricky areas like nostrils and under-eye areas. To mattify the look, I topped off the foundation with Bare Escentuals’ bareMinerals Matte Foundation in Light, using a wide kabuki brush. To give my complexion a healthy glow, I dusted on a layer of bareMinerals SPF25 Bronzing Mineral Veil and swept the Tarte Matte Waterproof Mineral Powder Bronzer onto my cheeks, followed with a hint of the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Amused at the apples of cheeks.
Moving on to my eyes, I started out by using the flat brush included with each cream shadow pot purchase. I gently and slowly applied the Shimmering Plum shade to my lids, smoothing it into my crease and along my brow bone. I then added a layer of the Seashell Pink shade to the crease and brow bone, blending the two shades together to create an almost gradient, seamless effect. I then extended the seashell pink color from the crease to the inner corners of eyes in an arc-like formation.
Next, I reached for my Senna Light Tricks Highlight Duo and rolled the thicker end of the dual-sided pencil under brows to illuminate my arches and make eyes appear wider. Last, I applied the bareMinerals Flawless Definition Curl & Lengthen Mascara, which separates, elongates, and accentuates lashes without leaving behind any excess bulk.
On lips, I smoothed on the Beauty Without Cruelty Blueberry Coulis 46 lipstick.
In the photos below, you’ll get a closer glimpse at my eye shadow handiwork. How amazing do the shades look together?
If you’re looking for cream eyeshadows, I strongly encourage you pick these up!
