Bananas Over Rachel Zoe’s Debut Collection Bloomingdale’s
As it turns out, celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe’s affordable apparel and accessories collection for QVC was just a dry-run before the main event: the launch of her eponymous “attainable luxury line,” now available at Bloomingdale’s.
Every piece in the Rachel Zoe collection captures the personal style: from her penchant for glamorous fur coats to her love of tie-neck blouses; leopard prints; minimalist, one-shoulder Grecian tunics and dresses; expertly tailored, pleated, wide leg pants; cuffed tuxedo shorts; double-breasted jackets with military button accents; sky-high ankle boots; oversize leather and exotic animal skin totes with turn-lock closures; and Chanel-like open cardigans. The good news: those of us who appreciate Zoe’s style can practically replicate it by picking up a few choice pieces (though I’d advise everyone to incorporate these pieces into an original aesthetic rather than aiming to be Zoe facsimiles). The bad news: given how closely these designs resemble items currently in Zoe’s closet, the launch of this collection will ruffle more than a few designers’ feathers.
Still, many women will want to nab these versatile and sophisticated pieces, starting with the elegant accessories. No Rachel Zoe collection would be complete without some treacherously high heels – after all, this is the woman who had to be carried down a sandy hill during a Harper’s Bazaar shoot with Demi Moore because she chose to wear 6-inch heels even though her destination was the beach.
I’m personally smitten with the Rachel Zoe “Bella” Booties ($425 at Bloomingdales.com), pictured at top, which are made of black suede and feature an asymmetrical, collar-like fold-over detail at the ankle and an angled double row of gold-toned rounded buttons, as well as a 5 1/2″ covered heel and a 1 1/2″ covered platform. Perhaps the “Eva” Suede Wedge ($395 at Bloomingdales.com), second from top, is the most inventive footwear design with its nested, two-shoes-in-one design. The burgundy suede stacked wedge will have you towering over your comrades with its impressive 6″ height.
Similarly, any Zoe style specialist knows an oversize tote is key to obtaining her look. To that end, then, they can nab the Rachel Zoe “Zoe” Tote ($650 at Bloomingdales.com), pictured third from top, a roomy, snake-embossed leather bag with double handles and a golden chain lock detail. Though beautiful, there’s no denying that the overall silhouette is disturbingly reminiscent of the Hermes Birkin bag (which Zoe has been known to carry quite often). But, again, the idea behind this collection seems to have been crafting more affordable versions of Zoe’s trademark apparel and accessories pieces, rather than pushing artistic boundaries or dazzling intrepid fashion hounds.
Given this fact, Zoe devotees will rejoice when they see pieces like the Rachel Zoe “Pamela” Tote ($595 at Bloomingdales.com), pictured above in a metallic pebble leather. Measuring 15″ in width an 10″ in height, this tote also features double handles and a detachable crossbody strap, but it has a slightly more laid-back silhouette thanks to the bucket-like top opening and the double buckle accents on either side of the bag’s base.
