Movado Bold Watches by Chris Benz — Splatterific Style
The last pop culture reference to Movado I can recall dates back more than ten years. To be specific, it's a passing mention in the hook of Changing Faces' 1997 song "G.H.E.T.O.U.T." in which the girls croon: "Movado's telling me you're creeping/ Finding numbers in your jeans/ You're talking in your sleep/ Fed up letters written by me." Clearly, the luxury timepiece brand is hoping to resuscitate its image and make the brand buzz-worthy once more — and what better way to do so than to team up with one of the fashion world's darlings: Chris Benz.
The CFDA winner was enlisted to design a limited-edition collection of Movado Bold watches ($550 at Movado.com). Each of these watches features a 42mm white TR90 composite material/stainless steel case with a colored dial featuring a dripping dot detail in a contrasting color at the 12 o'clock placement and a silk strap with a splatter-like smoke pattern.
Color options include an '80s-flavored greenish teal dial and a matching silk-covered band with billowing white smoke clouds that look like a mix between a tie-dyed and a splatter print. For an extra dose of pep, the hour and minute hands, along with the drip dot detail, are given a vermilion color. A purple option is also the highway to funky fashion, with a light violet dial, a darker purple bezel, and a white-and-purple band, all given some flash via indigo hour and minute hands and an indigo drip dot detail.
Available for pre-order, the watches officially ship on October 15th. Only 50 pieces of each colorway are available.
