Perfect Timing — Introducing The Nooka x Hello Kitty Zub 20 Watch
It's Hello Kitty's birthday! No, seriously, the sassy kitty we've all loved was born on November 1st. Of what year, you ask? Well, a lady never reveals her age, and Hello Kitty is nothing if not a lady. All we know is she's got more meow power than ever.
To celebrate the occasion, Sanrio joined forces with futuristic, urban-flavored, design-driven watch brand Nooka to create the Nooka x Hello Kitty Zub 20 White Watch ($130 at Sanrio.com), which hit stores today. This limited-edition watch features a white polyurethane band, white molded PU case, and a white mineral crystal face showcasing Nooka's patented Zirc display, in which 12 dots arranged in a circular form mark the hours (the darkened dots represent the time), while a horizontal row along the bottom of the square face digitally displays the minutes and a small window at the right-hand side counts the seconds, displaying numbers.
But the most charming aspect of this watch, of course, is the Hello Kitty graphic printed on the face, how the top of the square face features a thick, marker-like, rounded black line representing the top of her head, slanting upwards at the sides to denote the slope of her perky ears. Her signature red bow spans across the upper right corner of the dial, while a yellow oval shape below the horizontal minute display bar represents her nose.
Given the placement of these lines, the Zirc display looks like it could be one of Hello Kitty's eyes, while the line markers below the horizontal minute display bar look like tiny whiskers. It's the type of design that's genial in its simplicity and cleverness, making it all the more appealing to us die-hard HK fans.
