Brian Atwood Launches First Luxury Handbag Collection On Gilt
Footwear designer Brian Atwood is exploring higher ground — literally. After a decade of crafting the finest Italian leather, snakeskin, suede, and ostrich leather shoes, the former model and one-time Versace shoe designer is launching his first collection of luxury handbags. And, to show his appreciation for digital fashion influencers (chief among them flash sale sites), Atwood has chosen to reveal this exciting new collection on Gilt. Atwood’s carefully edited handbag collection consists of four handbag styles — the Carla, the Theodora, the Kate and the Iside — all available exclusively at Gilt.com/BrianAtwood.
Pictured above, you’ll find some of the more alluring pieces in the collection. At top, you’ll see the Brian Atwood Kate Pony Clutch ($1,285 at Gilt.com), a slim rectangular piece with rounded bottom edges, a slim black enamel frame with a leather-trimmed top clasp closure, and black leather strips at the center of golden plates placed at a diagonal slant on each of the two bottom corners. The Kate clutch features a leopard-printed pony hair exterior and a suede interior lining and measures 11″ in length, 6 3/4″ in height, and 1/2″ in width.
Next, there’s the Brian Atwood Carla Suede Triangle Clutch ($1050 at Gilt.com), shown above in an electric cobalt blue that’s right on trend with the SS12 color forecast. The envelope-shaped suede clutch — measuring 10 1/2″ in length, 6 1/2″ in height, and 1″ in width — features a rectangular top flap with a triangle flap sewn onto it that extends well past the metallic-trimmed bottom edge of the base flap. A decorative braided detail stitched along the edges of the V-shaped piece adds a modern vibe, while the tonal stitching ensured that the level of sophistication is maintained. A concealed magnet along the tip of the triangular flap makes closing the clutch a breeze but, for greater security, you can close the zippered pocket rimming the rectangular flap.
In addition to suede, the Carla is available in three-toned, vibrant, watercolor-style snakeskin. The Brian Atwood Carla Watersnake Triangle Clutch ($1385 at Gilt.com), shown last above, features the same dimensions and similar design elements as its suede iteration (save, of course, for the braided detail along the triangular piece). A sharp, luxurious, snappy piece, the Carla Watersnake clutch is available in a turquoise, emerald, and lime green color scheme, with each shade divided allotted to a specific section, giving the purse a color-blocked design.
Those looking for a daintier piece, meanwhile, will swoon over the Brian Atwood Theodora Minaudiere ($1795 at Gilt.com), shown third from top, an oval-shaped metal bag with a zig-zagging design along its front and back façade. Measuring 7 1/2″ in length, 5 1/2″ in height, and 1 1/4″ in width, the Theodora channels the Mod era thanks to the pink resin and silver-toned metal zig-zagging lines along the front and back of the clutch.Featuring hidden magnetic closures and a suede interior lining, the clutch fits practically perfectly inside the palm of the hand.
Versatile, modern, and effortlessly chic, the Brian Atwood handbag collection comprises the perfect introduction for the new chapter of this always inventive designer.
