Wonder Woman Joins The Ever-Expanding Converse x DC Comics All-Star Sneaker Collection
Today, Converse rolled out the latest addition to its expanding collection of sneaker designs featuring iconic DC Comics superheroes and their nemeses, unveiling the Wonder Woman Converse All Star Lo ($60 at Journeys.com).
The lace-up canvas sneakers feature a whimsical, patriotic, retro design that harkens back to Irv Novick‘s early ’50s Wonder Woman comic book covers (think Wonder Woman #43), with an illustration of the heroine along the outstep, near the anke collar, her wavy hair black and cyan blue, her lips a sanguine red hue, and a resplendent star-adorned tiara covering her forehead. A wavy-edged speech bubble in a bright blue, outlined in vibrant yellow, frame Wonder Woman’s visage. Horizontal rows of five-point white stars, separated by flag-like red horizontal stripes, hover against a gradient, inky blue backdrop. The front half of the outstep, meanwhile, features a red backdrop, with Pop Art-esque black dots of varying sizes creating the illusion of beaming rays.
The instep, menwhile, features black dots against a red backdrop along the front half and white dots against a bright blue background along the rear half. The “Wonder Woman” logo is printed in swooping cursive letters in a yellow hue worthy of her Lasso of Truth, with black shading giving the letters more dimension and depth.
The sneaker tongue, meanwhile, is a royal blue color, with a label bearing the yellow “Wonder Woman” logo stitched along the top. The crisp white laces, threaded through the red eyelets, complete the patriotic color scheme.
