Jewelry Designer Melody Ehsani and TV Personality Boss Lady Design Two Limited-Edition Versions of the Reebok Betwixt Mid Sneaker
For its latest designer collaboration, Reebok enlisted the help of two tastemakers in the realms of style and hip-hop culture: jewelry and footwear designer Melody Ehsani and media personality Simone “Boss Lady” Amelia, who often conducts on-air interviews for SiriusXM. Not only did Reebok shine a spotlight on female movers-and-shakers through its choice in guest designers, but it also reinforced its commitment to a multicultural talent pool — after all, Los Angeles-bred Ehsani was born to a Persian family while Sydney, Australia-born Amelia belongs to family with Middle Eastern roots. Both women were tasked with re-interpreting the Reebok Betwixt Mid, a sharp sneaker with a slim and understated sole, a bulk-free silhouette, and a 5/8th collar height. function.
Melody Ehsani’s interpretation, the Reebok Betwixt Mid Melody, features a black-and-white python print along the uppers, conical golden spikes placed atop black suede trim along the ankle collar and heel counter to punctuate the lethal vibe of the sneaker, and the word “Love” stenciled in light yellow script across the toes, so that one shoe bears the letters “LO” and the other completes the mot with the letters “VE.” The kicks come with three sets of laces — turquoise, neon yellow, and fluorescent orange — so you can wear them together or interchange them as desired. True to Ehsani’s aesthetic, the sneakers are audacious, unapologetic in their boldness, and have bravado ingrained into their design DNA. And, true to her fascination with distilling the paradoxical, the sneakers combine the hopefulness of love with the treachery associated with snakes and studs.
The Reebok Betwixt Mid Melody retails for $150 and is available at select retailers including Sportie LA, Millenium Shoes in LA, Social Status in Pittsburgh, Ubiq in Philadelphia, and Wish in Atlanta, along with DrJays.com and JimmyJazz.com. The kicks have been flying off of shelves — proof that females are craving more fashion-forward sneaker designs that they can wear as a style statement — but you can still cop a pair at JimmyJazz.com if you move quickly.
Simone “Boss Lady” Amelia’s design, the Reebok Betwixt Mid Boss Lady, just hit stores last week. Also retailing for $150, the sneakers feature smooth leather uppers in a butterscotch-y cream color, glittering turquoise leather along the heel counter, lining the ankle collar, and accentuating the top of the tongue. Along each side of the sneaker, a single dime-sized turquoise stone rimmed in a gold-toned metal adds a bit of bling, as does the thick gold chain dangling along the back of the shoe, which seemingly links together the cream suede side panels. Atop the turquoise leather at the heel, you’ll find the words “Boss Lady x Reebok” printed in gold script. For an added pop of color and a youthful bolt of energy, the sneakers come with red-and-black tiger striped laces.
True to her roots in hip-hop media, Amelia’s interpretation of the Reebok Betwixt Mid seem to be partly inspired by the sand- or wheat-colored Clark’s Wallabees that Ghostface so often revered in his raps, while the gem details and rope chain speak to hip-hop’s references to getting your swagger on, big ballin’, and shot callin’.
The Reebok Betwixt Mid Boss Lady can be purchased for $150 at Sportie LA, Millenium shoes, PickYourShoes.com, Social Status in Pittsburgh, DrJays.com, Addict in Miami, Jimmy Jazz, Ubiq in Philadelphia, and Wish in Atlanta.
