Baubles for the Hair — Check out the ban.do Holiday 2012 Collection

‘Tis the season for sparkly things — and why should your fingers, wrists, neck, and earlobes have all the fun? Thanks to the current hair jewelry trend, you can adorn your mane with gem-encrusted headbands, oversize metallic hair combs, and glittery bobbi pins. And, of course, you can count on hair accessory brand ban.do to   add the desired amount of glamorous glisten to your tresses.

The ban.do Holiday 2012 collection includes such inspired pieces as the Drinking the Stars Comb ($55 at Shopbando.com), shown second from top, a sculptural hair comb measuring 6.5″ in length and 3.25″ in height. The comb is adorned by a cluster of three-dimensional metallic gold stars, with flattened planes between these star shapes adorned with clear rhinestones to allude to a twinkling sky.  The comb will remind fashion lovers of the starry pins that Odile Gilbert used to adorn the updos of the models at the Rodarte Fall 2012 runway show.

The ban.do Sparkle & Shine Bobbi Sets ($25 at Shopbando.com), pictured third above, recall the metallic barrettes adorning the low ponytails of models at the Gemma Kahng Fall 2012 show. Each set incorporates one metallic faux leather bobbi paired with one glitter-covered number in a complementary color, both measuring 3″ in length and 5″ in height. Options include a metallic mint bobbi paired with a chunky silver-colored glittery bobbi, a ruby red metallic number paired with a hot pink glittery one, and a rosegold bobbi with a glitter-covered gold number.

And, as an ode to the Oscar de la Renta and Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2012 shows, both of which emphasized ornate and baroque headbands, the collection incorporates such pieces as the Double Trouble Headwrap ($65 at Shopbando.com), pictured fifth above, a double-stranded, stretchy headband featuring sparkling and matte stones set in gold, and the Big Shot Sparkle Headband ($25 at Shopbando.com), pictured first below, a 40mm-wide headband chock-full of golden glitter.

For a more playful, statement-making accessory, opt for the Boom Boom Flower Headband ($75 at Shopbando.com), shown first at top, which features a metallic headband covered with two rows of rhinestones and an oversize, sequin-covered flower measuring 6″ in diameter, with seven malleable petals that can be bent and folded to the desired shape. Available in Midnight (a deep, blackened blue hue), Hot Pink, Rosegold, and Gold, the Boom Boom Flower Headband adds a boom-boom-pow to any ensemble.

Other flirty choices, meanwhile, include the Party Crasher Headband ($30 at shopbando.com), pictured fourth above, which features a thin gold lamé headband adorned with a peony-like, tulle pom pom accent, and the Flurry Pouf ($35 at shopbando.com), shown third below, an ostrich feather pouf measuring 6″ in diameter and featuring a metal multi-back pin along the side allowing you to wear the piece on your hair or pinned to a garment or handbag.

Not only will these pieces add some coquettish sparkle to your holiday party looks, but they’ll have you prepared for 2013, when Baz Luhrmann’s remake of The Great Gatsby will unleash a fervor for flapper-meets-high-socitey, Daisy Buchanan-esque headbands and headwraps.
