Smoking Slippers Seen On Our Telemundo “Mujer De Hoy” Segment

On Friday, I appeared on Telemundo’s “Mujer de Hoy” segment, discussing this season’s smoking slipper trend. In the segment, I spoke of how smoking slippers earned their moniker, a phenomenon that dates back centuries to when members of the British aristocracy wore velvet numbers embroidered with their family crests within their homes, sporting the comfortable but dapper slippers with tuxedo jackets and blazers to relax in their libraries or lounges and smoke their pipes or cigars. And, of course, I discussed how the once masculine slipper has been reinvented for a female audience through the use of fun patterns, fabrics, and embellishments.

If you watched the segment and fell madly in love with one of the styles featured — or, if you’ve simply been searching high and low for a pair of your own — check out these smoking slippers, all of which were shown during the segment. In addition to brand names and prices, you’ll know where to buy them, so you can scoop them up right away!

Vince Camuto VC Signature Zan Loafer, $195. Available at Nordstrom.com

The first pair of smoking slippers you see hitting the floor, if you will, as our model Maria Eujenya struts into the room, are these dapper VC Signature flats. With their gray and red plaid print and the embroidered crest motif along the toe, the VC Signature Zan loafers tap into the regal roots of this particular footwear style. You can see them styled with a pair of skinny jeans and a white MadeMe blouse at the 1:00 mark in the video above.

House of Harlow 1960 Zenith Beaded Smoking Slipper, $295. Available at Bloomingdales.com

In the first frame in which I appear to discuss the smoking slippers trend (the 0:10 second mark in the clip), I’m holding these gorgeous slippers, which feature black, white, and gold beads covering the shoe uppers, arranged in a tribal-flavored, chevron-like pattern, with golden skull accents along the toe and the side panels for a rocker twist.

Model Stacey Giambastiani wore these with a pair of slim-fitting black pants and a denim long-sleeved blouse (as shown at the 0:20 mark). The 2568 Venus Slippers feature uppers fabricated with hand-dyed and hand-woven Guatemalan fabric for an authentic South American feel. You can also see a close-up of these same slippers in a blue-and-white color way at the 1:25 mark in the above segment.

Me Too Shoes Karie Slippers, $65.99. Available at Zappos.com

When the segment opens, the camera focuses on the two models sitting next to each other on a couch, their legs crosses and their hips twisted inward so that they’re facing each other. The camera then pans to their feet, capturing the Rebecca Minkoff Alvin Slippers described above at top and, of course, these Me Too Karie slippers. Featuring pony hair uppers in a tan leopard print, the Karie slippers also boast a black tassel accent along the toe. These were modeled by Stacey Giambastiani and paired with a MadeMe dress and MadeMe leather jacket with a leopard print collar (as seen at time mark 1:04).

Topshop Monastery Embellished Cross Slippers, $59. Available at US.Topshop.com

Featuring purple velvet uppers, the Topshop Monastery slippers boast oversize cross details along the toe, with faceted black-toned gems along their interior and multi-colored seed beads outlining these religious  symbols. The result is at once punk and slightly goth, elegant but slightly sinister at the same time.

Restricted Footwear Helen Smoking Slippers, $39.95. Available at RestrictedShoes.com

If you look at the 0:04 time mark on the video above, you’ll notice the camera zooming in on these wine-colored vegan suede flats from Restricted Footwear. Telemundo reporter Nadia even wound up modeling them while propped atop a log-shaped eat in front of a fireplace (check out time mark 1:08).
