Living for the Weekend with the May28th x Kate Spade Saturday Collection
It’s a girl! Kate Spade recently unveiled its latest creation: the Kate Spade Saturday brand, an affordably priced, trend-driven, youthful clothing and accessories brand that captures the excitement and energy that we associate with the weekend (hence the Saturday reference in the name). The debut collection is teeming with vibrant color — mainly cherry tomato orange, raspberry pink, sunshine yellow, and cobalt blue — along with on-trend patterns like a painterly, watercolor-esque abstract print with strokes of turquoise, yellow, magnolia, carnation pink, tangerine, aqua, vermilion, and red, and a geometric black-and-white print with stripes in a maze-like arrangement. And here’s the genius part of it all: every Saturday, new products are introduced, giving fashion lovers yet another reason to say “T.G.I.F.!” come the end of the work week.
In addition to spring-ready dresses and separates, Kate Spade Saturday offers perky accessories — including the above-pictured timepieces, which resulted from a collaboration with May28th, a playful brand that specializes in exuberant watches with plastic bands and round faces incorporating bold graphic prints. The three May28th x Kate Spade Saturday watches are consistent with the May 28th aesthetic, but they each correspond to the colors or prints in the current Kate Spade Saturday collection.
The water-resistant May28th x Kate Spade Saturday Watch in Signature Zig Zag ($50 at Saturday.com), for instance, features a black wristband accentuated with a yellow strip that secure the band in place when wrapped around the wrist, along with a round face measuring 1.2″ in diameter and boasting a geometric black-and-white print. Here’s a close look at the dial, which might remind you of those maze puzzle party favors you played with as a kid (in which you had to rotate your puzzle until you managed to get the round metal ball inside to its final destination).
Next, check out the Kate Spade Saturday Everyday Shift Dress in Signature Zig Zag ($170 at Saturday.com), one of the many garments in the collection incorporating this black-and-white print that inspired the watch’s design.
The May28th x Kate Spade Saturday Watch in Abstract Print ($50 at Saturday.com) again features a plastic band, this time in a crisp white color, and a round dial with a pattern that corresponds to a Saturday textile.First, take a close look at the print on the watch’s dial, shown below:
Next, behold the abstract print that appears on such garments as the Kate Spade Saturday Utility Pocket Skirt in Abstract ($85 at Saturday.com) shown below:
Last but not least, there’s the May28th x Kate Spade Saturday Watch in Cherry Tomato ($50 at Saturday.com), which doesn’t integrate a pattern on the dial but, instead, relies on a play of colors by juxtaposing a cobalt blue plastic strap with a round yellow face, an orange case framing the face, and a yellow strip adding a pop of color to the band. The color-blocked motif is youthful and current and, again, it corresponds to the color palette that’s most dominant in the Saturday collection. Check out a close-up of the watch dial:
Below, you’ll find a couple of garments from the Kate Spade Saturday collection that feature these gorgeous colors. I’m personally smitten with the Kate Spade Saturday Slip Neck Ponte Top ($50 at Saturday.com), which features a raised boatneck neckline and 3/4-length sleeves, and the Shirttail Skirt ($80 at Saturday.com), a mini skirt with a rounded hemline and a pull-through button tab closure. Check out both of these garments below:
