A Turquoise Touch — Zoe Kravitz for Swarovski Crystallized Capsule Collection
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that X-Men: First Class star Zoë Kravitz gravitates towards free-spirited fashions with a bit of an edge — after all, her parents are none other than The Cosby Show alumni Lisa Bonet and rocker Lenny Kravitz, both known for their Bohemian-meets-rock ‘n’ roll aesthetics. But, as it turns out, her style disposition was also written in the stars: turquoise is the birthstone of the December-bred beauty, a stone that we almost immediately associate with Southwestern areas, tribal-inspired looks, and a Bohemian sensibility. As might be expected, then, the new Zoe Kravitz for Swarovski Crystallized celebrates Zöe’s unique brand of beatnik style, with jewelry pieces that incorporate raw as well as polished and faceted turquoise stones, sterling silver chains, feather charms, and clear Swarovski crystals.
The limited edition collection, available at The Fancy.com, fits right in with the Southwestern-inspired fashions we’ll be seeing this spring and summer. Most pieces are dainty and great for layering — take, for instance, the Sierra Long Necklace ($181 at TheFancy.com), shown next to last above, which features slightly rounded but asymmetrical turquoise beads along its rounded lower surface, divided by vintage-looking sterling silver discs encrusted with Swarovski crystals, and which includes two draped sterling silver chains for a rocker twist, one adorned with a feather charm to magnify the Bohemian quality of the piece. Similarly, the Sierra Bracelet 2 ($142 at TheFancy.com), shown third above, features sections of prong-set, faceted turquoise stones followed by rows of prong-set clear Swarovski crystals to create a two-toned color palette in an irregular pattern (perfect for Zoë since, after all, she wants to be anything but predictable). Thin sterling silver chains wrap around the front of the bracelet to create a deliberately tangled look, with a feather charm again taking center stage. The Sierra Bracelet ($90 at TheFancy.com) features a similar look but, this time, the piece combines polished, turquoise-colored, diamond-shaped beads, clustered sterling silver rings, and wider sterling silver rings with tiny Swarovksi crystals encrusted into their center. Again, here, the front of the bracelet is adorned with two draped chains, one with the ubiquitous feather charm dangling from one end, but this time they boast slightly wider links and appear more meticulously placed as opposed to the haphazard look of the Sierra Bracelet 2.
Bolder pieces include the Sierra Hoop Earrings ( at TheFancy.com), shown second from top, and the Sierra Ring ($90 at TheFancy.com), shown fourth above. The sterling silver Sierra Hoop Earrings feature faceted, prong-set, turquoise- and clear-toned Swarovski crystals lining the hoops’ periphery and small, raw turquoise stones, as well as flat clear disc beads, dangling from the lower curve of the earrings. Similarly, the Sierra Ring features a domed, polished, oval-shaped turquoise stone at its center with smaller, prong-set turquoise stones around its periphery, and a halo of lavender-colored crystals forming the outermost ring to create a flower-like shape.
Though the turquoise stones and feather charms grow tiresome after a while and the collection could benefit from some bolder, more adventurous silhouettes and material choices, it does boast a laid-back ease that’s consistent with Zoe Kravitz’s much-trumpeted aesthetic. And, while most pieces won’t make a huge style statement in and of themselves, when properly layered, mixed and matched, they can add quite the Boho twist.
