Sipping Hot, Hot, Hot — Introducing New bobble hot

bobbleHot-sping-2013bobble-hot-in-magentaForget Earth Day — it’s been Earth Week over at the Sicka Than Average headquarters! You might remember how in last year’s Earth Day round-up, I extolled the virtues of the bobble Jug, a sleek and modern jug with a built-in filtration system. Well, this was only a small preview of what could be devised by the brainiac behind the original bobble, a reusable, portable, sporty water bottle containing a built-in filter that allows users to pour tap water inside it while ultimately enjoying clean water thanks to the tiny filter inside the spout. This year, they’ve expanded their range of offerings to include the bobble hot and bobble iced, each a reusable and portable container designed to keep beverages at their optimal temperature.

For months now, I’ve been testing out the bobble hot ($9.99 at waterbobble.com), shown above, which is designed to keep steaming beverages nice and warm. This dishwasher safe bottle can hold up to 15 oz. of liquid and it features double-walled insulation so as to trap the heat inside the main compartment, thereby allowing your coffee, tea, cocoa, or cider to remain warm for significantly longer. But, and here’s the kicker: because the outside is insulated as well, you won’t have to worry about your fingertips burning when you grasp the bottle, a welcome feeling after touching entirely too many cardboard and styrofoam coffee cups over the years and fussing with uncooperative cup sleeves.

Designed by Karim Rashid, the BPA-free bobble hot boasts a sculptural design with curved, hourglass-shaped walls that lend the bottle a feminine touch. The double insulation construction, meanwhile, is visible to the naked eye, lending the design an ultra-modern feel. The see-through container is topped off by a slightly domed lid — available in either hot pink, turquoise, or black — that can be twisted on and off. Best of all, the base of the lid remains screwed into place while the top half of this very lid can be twisted to reveal an oblong-shaped cut-out through which the liquid is dispensed and, in the same way, twisted in the opposite direction to conceal this spout and prevent any spills.

The bobble hot is ideal for early mornings when you’re darting off to work since it saves you both money and time (no need to dip into that Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts for a caffeine fix when you can prepare coffee at home and then pour it inside your bobble hot). In addition, you’ll be saving the planet by reusing the same container instead of adding to the millions of styrofoam, cardboard, and paper cups winding up in garbage cans and landfills.

Unlike a standard thermos, which requires you to be stationary in order to twist off the cup-like lid and pour the thermos’ contents into this cup, the bobble hot allows you to sip on your steamy beverage even when you’re walking, driving, or riding the train. Also, you don’t have to worry about the liquid spilling out as you would with the plastic lids of a restaurant coffee cup. Now, if you throw the bobble hot inside your purse,  there is a chance that your purse’s contents will bump against the top lid enough to reveal a portion of the spout, thereby having a teeny bit of liquid spill out, but the odds of this happening are rather slim. And, really, this isn’t something you’d even consider doing with a Starbucks coffee cup, so the fact that you can even ponder this option is telling.

In terms of efficiency, I’ve been shocked at how long liquids can stay warm inside the bobble hot. Just a few weeks ago, I had to do an early morning TV appearance and had to leave my house at 4:30 a.m. in order to arrive at the TV studios at the requested time. Before leaving the house, I of course poured my coffee inside my bobble hot and, almost four hours later, when I had wrapped up my TV segment, my coffee was still warm — granted, it wasn’t piping hot, but it was slightly hotter than lukewarm, which is pretty impressive considering both the amount of time that had elapsed and the frigid temperature outside.

All in all, this is a great investment since it will save you time and money while also helping you do your part to lead a more eco-conscious life.
