Pacifica Heights — Pacifica Makes a Splash with new Skin Care Collection

For years now, I’ve been touting the wonders of Pacifica’s phthalate-free, all-natural fragrances (available in spray, solid, and roll-on form), and its vast array of incredibly moisturizing, lightweight, gorgeously scented all-natural body butters, available in such irresistible scents as Hawaiian Ruby Guava (my personal fave), California Star Jasmine, Brazilian Mango Grapefruit (a close second in the race for my heart), Island Vanilla, French Lilac, and Tahitian Gardenia. Slowly but surely, the brand has continued to grow, introducing new product categories ranging from Luminizing Body Butters to sulfate-free body washes  and mineral lip tints that quench dry pouts while depositing a hint of sheer color. Perhaps most excitingly, Pacifica has now ventured into the realm of skin care, launching a carefully edited and fine-tuned collection that incorporates a handful of top-notch products: the Pacifica Dreamy Youth Day & Night Face Cream ($20 at PacificaPerfume.com), the Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes ($6 for pack of 30 at PacificaPerfume.com), the Pacifica Alight Multi-Mineral BB Cream ($16 at PacificaPerfume.com), and the Pacifica Sea Foam Complete Face Wash ($11 at PacificaPerfume.com).

I’ve been faithfully using the Pacifica Sea Foam Complete Face Wash, the Dreamy Youth Day & Night Face Cream, and the Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes and have been floored by all three products. First, the products’ scents are completely consistent with the brand’s existing portfolio of beachy, tropical, free-spirited fragrances, as is their packaging which combines dainty daisy accents, spirals reminiscent of crashing ocean waves, undulating lines reminiscent of palm tree leaves, and lotus blossoms with petals in kaleidoscopic color schemes that resemble Moroccan stained glass windows.

Packaged inside an aqua blue tube, the Pacifica Sea Foam Complete Face Wash ($11 at PacificaPerfume.com) delivers such a deep cleanse, it will make you question why you’ve spent $20 and $30 on other face washes in the past. As with all Pacifica products, this cleanser is formulated with natural ingredients and is 100% vegan, as well as sulfate-, paraben-, and phthalate-free. The cleanser has a clear color and a gel-like, almost aloe-like consistency. When you squeeze a dab onto your palm and rub your hands together, the cleanser foams nicely, which enhances the sensory experience during cleansing and, when you rinse the face wash off, your face feels squeaky clean yet comfortable and hydrated (as opposed to so many harsh face washes that strip your complexion of all moisture and leave you dashing for your moisturizer). Featuring a light coconut scent, this cleanser relies on a mix of potent natural ingredients: papaya extract, which softens the skin and is rife with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) that gently exfoliate the skin by promoting cellular turnover; sea algae extract, which is rich in unsaturated fatty acids and polysaccharides that fortify the skin’s natural moisture barrier, stimulate collagen synthesis, hydrate and soothe the skin, brighten skin tone, and protect skin from free radical damage; coconut water, which is rich in cytokines, plant hormones that have been found to slow down the aging process when applied to skin, as well as potassium, which helps to optimize skin’s moisture levels, and amino acids and vitamin C, which work to soften the skin and improve both tone and texture. Other ingredients include aloe leaf juice, which calms and cools the skin; antioxidant-rich white tea extract, which works to brighten the skin and protect it from free radicals that lead to premature aging signs; mangosteen extract, which has a higher antioxidant content than green tea; panthenol or vitamin B5, which is known to soften the skin; and lemon bioflavonoids, which have antibacterial properties and also helps to enhance vitamin C performance, therefore aiding in overall skin renewal.

Part of what I love about this flavor is its consistency — it’s not too creamy and thick nor does it leave any filmy residue on your skin, but it’s also not too viscous or too runny. Also, I love that it manages to foam ever so slightly without relying on skin-drying sulfates in order to do so. But most of all, I love how fresh my complexion feels every time I use this cleanser.

Next up: the Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes ($6 at PacificaPerfume.com). These moist towelettes are remarkably long (about twice the length of your ordinary face wipe), which means that you get a lot more bang for your buck. The biodegradable towelettes are moistened with a mixture of purified water, toning and softening coconut water, soothing aloe vera and calendula, and exfoliating papaya extract, working to remove dirt, makeup, oil, and pollutants while also helping to revive and calm the skin. Though a top-notch product, the towelettes themselves are perhaps not as soft as I’d like them to be when compared to, say, the Yes to Cucumbers Facial Cleansing Towelettes or the Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes, both of which have a really downy texture and are chock-full of moisture. But, if they were just a wee bit damper, they could very well outshine the former — especially since they do effectively remove even the most stubborn makeup and they leave skin feeling fresh and smelling like a slice of tropical paradise.

Last but not least, there’s the Pacifica Dreamy Youth Day and Night Face Cream ($20 at PacificaPerfume.com), an anti-aging moisturizer that relies on Pacifica’s exclusive Fleuracell Complex, which incorporates floral stem cells and natural plant extracts that are rich in amino acids, peptides, vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids. Designed to suit all skin types, this moisturizer is packaged inside a slim tube and features a handy pump dispenser that allows you to regulate the amount of product dispensed and, furthermore, protects ingredients from oxidizing (which happens disturbingly frequently with moisturizers packaged in jars with twist-off caps. The consistency of the moisturizer is perfect — velvety without being balmy or buttery — and reminded me instantly of the Zia Skin Basics Everyday Moisturizer, another longtime favorite. The face cream is quickly absorbed by the skin, so that it won’t leave it looking shiny or greasy, plus it’s so gentle that it won’t irritate sensitive skin.

In terms of its formula, the Dreamy Youth Day and Night Face Cream relies on the following ingredients: active stem cells from the sweet iris plant, which have been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating the synthesis of collagen, elastin, proteoglycans, and glycosaminoglycans while neutralizing enzymes that inhibit their production; damascus rose leaf cell extract, which helps the skin retain moisture and therefore makes it appear firmer and more supple; coconut water, a natural toner and softener; sunflower seed oil, which not only contains antioxidants (particularly vitamin E and beta-carotene) that protect the skin from UV damage; kelp extract, which boost circulation, nourishes the skin, combats irritation, and slows the aging process thanks to its antioxidant, fatty acid, vitamin and mineral content; shea butter, rich in fatty acids that hydrate and soften the skin; cucumber extract and aloe leaf juice, which calm skin inflammations and reduces redness; vitamin E-rich sweet almond oil, which works as an emollient and boasts a similar molecular structure to that of the dermis, thereby easily penetrating the skin without leaving behind any greasy residue; grape seed oil, which contains resveratrol, a powerful substance in the battle against aging; hyaluronic acid; acetyl hexapeptide-3, which has been shown to reduce the appearance of superficial lines and wrinkles with regular use; cocoa seed butter, an excellent emollient which can even help to reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks; geranium oil, a natural astringent, antibacterial and toner; and palmitoyl tripeptide-3, which boosts collagen synthesis by stimulating the release of TGF-beta, a protein that regulates cell tissue regeneration, in the epidermis.

Not only has Pacifica made an outstanding debut with this foray into skincare, but it’s done so in a manner that’s consistent with the brand’s ethos and which takes into account the need for top-quality products at affordable price points. I cannot wait to see what new launches await us!
