Mark Your Polo — Lacoste and J.Crew Collaborate on Line of Limited-Edition Polo Shirts
If there’s something all fashionistas learned from Margot Tenenbaum, it’s the inherent fabulousness of a Lacoste polo shirt (lest we forget, she even secretly married a man in Jamaica while wearing a white polo shirt and sarong!). Clearly, J.Crew Creative Director and President Jenna Lyons also recognizes the easy, clean, minimalist sophistication and preppy elegance of a Lacoste polo shirt, which is why she decided to embark upon a collaborative journey with Frank Muytjens, Lacoste’s Head of Men’s Design, producing a limited-edition array of polo shirts for men, women, and kids available exclusively at select J.Crew stores (over 30 stores in the US) and online at JCrew.com.
So what makes these Lacoste for J.Crew polo shirts so unique? Well, for starters, there’s the crocodile logo on the right side of the chest. Instead of the green reptile seen in recent years, these polos feature a rarely-seen version of the logo plucked from the brand’s archives. Dating back to 1983, this version of the logo shows the crocodile form in a periwinkle blue shade, with the brand name, “Lacoste,” printed in cursive lettering inside the croc’s body. Next, the hemline showcases a very subtle hi-lo differential, with the front edging falling less than an inch above the back edging to create a subtle tail-like effect. Third, the overall silhouette of the polo was streamlined to yield a slimmer, more body conscious fit that speaks to the fashion proclivities of modern trendsetters.
The Lacoste for J.Crew polo shirts ($98 each at JCrew.com) are made of 100% cotton and are available in three shades: White, Heather Graphite, and Sweet Persimmon.
Time to hop and bop and “Crocodile Rock”!
