Last week, I visited a nearby school to offer students career advice and talk about the many different opportunities available to them thanks to the rise of social media. The night before, I looked through my closet (otherwise known as my happy place) and wondered, What should I wear? I wanted my ensemble to reflect my personality and aesthetic — from my love of bright colors to my penchant for body-hugging (but not skin-tight!) dresses — but I also knew I need to keep it G-rated and relatively conservative, which ruled out a few items with slightly daring necklines, stud embellishments, and edgy cut-outs. I ended up selecting an ASOS midi dress that’s modest but still has a playful energy thanks to the print, itself a mash-up of geometric shapes (azure circles and cobalt blue half-circles) and exotic blossoms (yellow, pink, and orange iris flowers).

Since the frock has a bit of a retro feel, I kept things prim with a pair of gray wool Vince Camuto Mary-Jane pumps with a 1″ platform and a sizable heel.  To add a “wow” touch to the outfit, I added a lightweight blush-colored robe coat from Pretty Little Things. It’s a duster coat, so it’s loose-fitting and has a draped collar that adds a fluidity to your look. To complement the coat, meanwhile, I accessorized with Sobral Jewelry drop earrings made of a lightweight mauve pink resin.

In the end, I felt confident that my ensemble reflected my personality but also perfectly ticked off all the requisite boxes in terms of the recommended dress code for a function of this matter. It’s also the type of outfit you can wear to the office — all without feeling like your style sensibilities are being stifled!
