As I start roasting my chicken (yes, I accidentally bought an oven-ready chicken instead of a turkey like the space cadet I am) and whipping up my candied yams, arroz con gandules, and collard greens, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to all of you, my lovely readers.

Imagine taking the term “summer white,” printing it on an impermeable rubber strip, tucking this token inside a locked metal box, then throwing that box into a deep ocean, watching as it sinks all the way to the bottom, where it might eventually be unearthed years from now and deemed a relic of ages past.
