The Many Dannijo Necklaces Worn by Angela Lindvall on “Project Runway All-Stars”

Lifetime threw us quite a few curve balls while shooting Project Runway All-Stars — first, casting the leggy blond supermodel Angela Lindvall as host in lieu of Heidi Klum, a smart move since the two are practically interchangeable in terms of physical appearance; benching judges Nina García and Michael Kors, with whom many viewers had grown frustrated (particularly after they chose Gretchen to win over Mondo in Season 8 and since Kors stopped doling out his side-splitting zingers during critiques), and swapping them with Marchesa co-founder and designer Georgina Chapman and Isaac Mizrahi (the former an enormous coup); and giving the ever-nurturing Tim Gunn a breather, inviting Marie Claire Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles to function as the designers’ mentor and the workroom mother hen (an unwise move given Coles’ unapproachable, standoffish demeanor, which makes her feel as warm and motherly as an iceberg). Ch-ch-ch-changes indeed. Then again, given that they brought back some of the most talented, comical, and memorable characters of previous seasons, the potential ratings success of All-Stars was never in question.

Thus far, Project Runway All-Stars has managed to reignite our passion for a TV franchise that was quickly losing its luster, reminding us of why we tuned into the show in the first place. And, aside from a Muppets-themed challenge that felt redundant and passé, the feats posed to the contestants have been a healthy mixture of new design tests and of recycled but reinvented prior challenges.

We’ve been tuning in religiously and, of course, scrutinizing every pleat, seam, and drape. But we’ve also been studying what Angela Lindvall has donned on camera. And, since the very first episode, we noticed her appreciation (or her stylist’s appreciation) for Dannijo jewelry.

Since I’ve loved Dannijo assiduously since I first discovered the New York-based brand, I’ve been quick to recognize the pieces gracing Lindvall’s neck, so I’ll break down the main three featured thus far.

In the first episode, when Lindvall introduced herself to the Project Runway alumni, she was wearing the Dannijo Zsa Zsa necklace pictured above at top ($995 at Dannijo.com), a 16″-long necklace with diamond-cut triple links and H-shaped chain links along the collar area and, at the center, three medallion-shaped, oxidized brass plate stations with pink, tangerine, and emerald green Swarovski Elements crystals in rectangular, teardrop, and square shapes at their center. Oxidized brass snake chain strands encircle these crystals, rimming the periphery of each circular plate, completing the rocker-worthy effect.

Minutes later, when Lindvall announced the 99 Cent Store challenge, she again wore a Dannijo piece — this time, a multi-tiered bib necklace like the Soraya necklace ($495 at Dannijo.com) pictured above, second from top. Though Lindvall’s version incorporated some chartreuse green stones, the silhouette was identical to that of the Soraya (which probably means hers was custom made). This statement-making necklace features five rows of oxidized, silver-plated round links with sparkling spherical beads positioned at the center of each link and, dangling from the bottom row, bulbous teardrop-shaped and smooth, horn-shaped beads and stones.

After hitting us with the Dannijo 1-2 punch during the season’s premiere, Lindvall seemed to steer away from the New York-based jewelry brand — and then, in Episode 4, she again turned to Dannijo to spruce up the red dress she donned during the runway show. Before the designers showcased their gelato-inspired frocks, then, Lindvall graced the catwalk wearing the Dannijo Cota Necklace ($795 at Dannijo.com), a tribal-flavored, three-level silver necklace juxtaposes crescent moon, triangle, diamond, trapezoid, cylindrical, and circular shapes and which features faceted fuchsia and orange Swarovski crystals, along with turquoise and white cabochon stones. U-shaped shackles jut out of the top station with its three conjoined cylindrical tubes, along with the crescent moon-shaped center station. The necklace’s pendants yield a total drop of 7″, making this a bold chest piece.

We might not know who’ll be going home this week but, at the very least, we can predict Dannijo will endure until the very end, adding some razzle-dazzle to Lindvall’s ensembles.

Top 10 Red Carpet Looks At The 2012 SAG Awards

Though the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards were largely a snooze fest, the re carpet was surprisingly entertaining, with many a starlet pushing the boundaries and eschewing standard award ceremony fare for more modern, avant-garde looks or playful, vintage-inspired fare. Below, you'll find the 10 looks that we thought lit up our screens!

1. EMMA STONE

The Help's Emma Stone channeled the 1950s thanks to the voluminous quality and mid-calf length of the skirt on her black Alexander McQueen frock. The strapless cut, however, modernized the frock, while still maintaining its coquettish quality via the scalloped lacework at the bustline. The perfectly fitted, corset-like shape of the bodice, meanwhile, added a hint of sexiness. And, while both her ankle-strapped peep-toe sandals and minaudiere boasted ruffle accents, the matching details worked to create a sense of unison in the ensemble, instead of making it look overly done and calculated.

2. SOFIA VERGARA

Modern Family's Sofia Vergara knows how to work those jewel tones, as evidenced by her crowd-pleasing, sapphire-colored Golden Globes gown, and she once again looked like the gem of the ball in a bright pink, strapless mermaid tail dress from Marchesa. Perfectly fitted along the waist and thighs, the skirt slunk down to the floor ever so fluidly, balancing out the ornate pleats along the bodice. A wide amethyst cuff and drop earrings from Lorraine Schwartz completed the ensemble.

3. MICHELLE WILLIAMS

After an uncharacteristic fashion faux-pas at the Golden Globes, My Week With Marilyn actress Michelle Williams quickly recoiled at the SAG Awards, hitting the red carpet in a romantic scarlet-colored Valentino gown. At its heart, the gown was an asymmetrical number with a single twisted shoulder strap, careful pin-tucked details al the waist and an undulating asymmetrical hemline, but it was softened and made way more demure by the addition of red lace to create a pretty rounded neckline and dainty cap sleeves.

4. ZOE SALDANA

She may have played an assassin in Colombiana, but Dominican actress Zoe Saldana looked killer last night in a semi-sheer, white Givenchy Haute Couture dress with glimmering silver stripes and chunky crystals encrusted along the openings of the oversize, elbow-length sleeves, at the rounded neckline, and along the rosette-like details adorning the drop waist. From its celestial color to its fluid silhouette, this dress made Saldana look heaven sent.

5. ROSE BYRNE

Though she plays a shrewd lawyer on Damages, actress Rose Byrne's style choices tend to fall on the conventional and classic side. Which is, of course, why her risk-taking ensemble at the SAG awards proved all the more thrilling. Channeling the 1970s, Byrne hit the red carpet in a beaded Elie Saab jumpsuit with center pleats along the pants and a cross-over style at the bodice. To complete the Scarface-inspired look, John Frieda's Harry Josh gave Byrne a slick chin-length bob and bangs that would make Anna Wintour green with envy.

Alexandre Birman Pumps Make Back-to-Back Appearances On Gossip Girl

Alexandre-birman-patchwork-python-pumps-seen-on-gossip-girl

How closely do you pay attention to the looks that stylist Eric Daman so deftly pieces together for each episode of Gossip Girl? If you always examine each look intently — and I'm talking the type of discernment required to win a championship round of "Where's Waldo?" — you might have noticed that, on Monday's "The Fasting and the Furious" episode, the Beatrice Grimaldi character (Blair Waldorf's new royal nemesis) wore these gold-toned Alexandre Birman Python Platform Pumps with a Diane Von Furstenberg dress.

Stunning shoes are par for the course in the Gossip Girl, so what made these pump's appearance so noteworthy was that they were featured in a different colorway in the prior episode. On the October 17th episode "Memoirs of an Invisible Dan," Leighton Meester's character Blair Waldorf rocked the multi-colored Alexandre Birman Mixed Media Platform Pumps, which retail for $750 at Saks Fifth Avenue, along with a dress from the Louis Vuitton Resort 2012 collection.

Both of the pump styles feature glossy snakeskin uppers with cut-outs that yield a double helix-like effect, along with a double-layered platform and a straight stiletto heel. Aside from the difference in color (Waldorf's pumps incorporated purple, aqua, and acid green python whereas these blend together gold, yellow, and beige tones), the only substantial disparity between the two is the cork integrated into the mixed media style.

In a way, given Gossip Girl's trend-setting reputation, it's shocking that two such similar footwear styles would appear in back-to-back episodes but, in another way, it's a genial move — after all, the woman following Waldorf's style steps is none other than her envious, manipulative, scheming future sister-in-law. Perhaps Daman and the writers are sending us a message via footwear: shoe tastes aside, Blair and Beatrice may have more in common than meets the eye.

Breaking Bad: The Complete Third Season On DVD — Catch Up Before Season 4 Ignites!

Breaking-Bad-season-3-DVD-set

Those who claim that AMC's Breaking Bad glorifies drugs clearly haven't seen a single episode of the critically-acclaimed series. On a surface level, the series does center on the drug trade: Emmy winner Bryan Cranston (whose prior credits include the quirky family show Malcolm in the Middle) plays Walter White, a middle-aged chemistry teacher in an Albuquerque high school who, upon discovering he suffers from terminal lung cancer, chooses to keep his diagnosis secret from his worry-prone pregnant wife and disabled teenage son and stumbles into the lucrative meth cooking game as a means to earn some quick money to leave behind for his family. Walt's shepherd in the drug trade: his former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), a careless, impulsive, slick-talking petty drug dealer who loses his meth-cooking partner during a DEA bust conducted by Walt's brother-in-law, Hank, whose cowboy-like antics in the police force trigger some comical delusions of grandeur.

But there's nothing glamorous about Walt's day-to-day life — no fast cars, no cocaine-sniffing sirens in nightclubs, no mansions with built-in elevators. For most of the first season, Walt is cooking in a run-down RV in the middle of the desert while holding down his teaching gig, maintaining his straight-arrow persona, and tending to his Type A wife Skylar, who grows increasingly suspicious of Walt's recurring and oft unexplained absences.

What's most fascinating [SPOILER AHEAD!!!] — beyond the flasks and blue-colored rocks, the squabbling between Walt and Jesse, and the run-ins with both minor and major drug dealers — is the way the characters develop and change during the course of the past three seasons. In Season 1, viewers can practically sense the ticking clock in Walt's brain, his frantic rush to cook as much meth and amass as much money as possible before his final days. Though he rarely abandons his methodical demeanor and no-nonsense rhetoric, it's clear that his actions are predicated by a stifling desperation. Still, his conscience plagues him when he faces situations that challenge his most basic understanding of right and wrong. Case in point: how he postpones killing his and Jesse's hostage, Krazy-8, bringing him sandwiches with crusts cut off (the way he likes them), conversing with him about his family life, and practically begging him for assurances that, should he be let free, he won't seek retribution.

By Season 2, however, Walt has become more comfortable with the grittier side of his profession, adopting a pseudonym to ensure greater safety from being nabbed by the DEA, which has now made him a prime target. As he finds his life threatened by power-hungry cartel bigwigs, he steps up with remarkable valor, his nice guy façade cracking to reveal a man who, when his back is against the wall, will go to any means to survive. Rising higher in the drug trade also means becoming further estranged from his wife who, by the end of Season 2, is ready to call it quits on her marriage.

In many ways, Season 3 is one of consequences for Walt. With his marriage on the rocks, he questions why he ever entered the business. He's kicked cancer after some intense rounds of chemotherapy but, with the loss of his wife and kids, he can't quite muster a sense of gratitude for his extended life span. This time around, when Walt re-enters the drug business after a brief lapse, his decision is dictated by a different sort of desperation: his life now lacks purpose and, without it, the risk involved in cooking meth seems worth taking. The Walt we see in this season is perhaps colder, more calculating, more volatile, less plagued by matters of morality. And yet there are moments when his conscience eats at him — especially in matters pertaining to his brother-in-law, whose life he unwittingly endangered.

But, while Walt's character arc is fascinating and there are some remarkable behavioral differences in Season 3, I'd argue that this season really belongs to Jesse. If Walt is losing sight of his moral center, Jesse's trajectory involves an awakening of his ethical beliefs. The wise-cracking thug wannabe we saw in Season 1 is, for the most part, a relic of the past. Virtually disowned by his parents, having lost a close friend in a drive-by shooting, and reeling from the loss of his landlady-turned-lover, who overdosed in her sleep while laying inches from him, Jesse feels adrift. He's forced to kick the heroin habit he acquired while dating Jane and to ponder what other routes he could follow with his life. With no education or skill set, however, Jesse finds few viable options, plus his sense of identity has become firmly entrenched in the drug dealer façade he has kept up for so many years. Still, Jesse is discovering that he's not willing to conduct business at any cost, that he does have some standards of conduct, a deep-rooted sense of right and wrong which Walt now seems to struggle to discern. While Walt becomes more comfortable with pulling the trigger in a do-or-die situation, Jesse can't justify killing — or, at least, he can't justify being the killer, the one actually taking the life in question. As Season 3 progresses though, Jesse must grapple with a plethora of conflicting emotions: from his own mixed feelings towards Walt to his desire for revenge after being beaten within an inch of his life to his disgust over the employ of children by local drug dealing gangs.

Between the season's narrative ambition, the stellar performances by both Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston, and the usage of metaphorical imagery (note the crawling scene in the first episode and then observe how it relates to other scenarios involving crawling later on in the season), Season 3 exemplifies why Breaking Bad is simply the best series on television.
